Help! ~ 2010 M3, 2010 X5 M, or 2011 M5 ~ Help!

Hey guys i really need some help, my lease for my Cayenne Turbo is up in May so Im in the market for a new car, to start ordering in Feb, March.

I'm definitely getting a BMW they're is no doubt about that. They are just set so correctly in they're space (they make sense) they are so practical fun fast amazing all around cars yet you can just chill and drive with it. They're is so many upsides and downsides to each car in the M line, they're all so amazing and I don't know which one to choose. If I pick an M3 which is so hot an amazing car I love it but its the least practical. If I pick the X5 M Its just not as hot, and its a truck. If I pick the M5 I have to take a risk wait (Im positively sure its going to be amazing) take into fact if I can even get one when theyre released....so....

Either the-

-2010 M3 DCT, Black, on Fox Red Extended Novillo Leather

-2010 X5 M, Black, on Cinnamon Full Marino Leather

or wait > for the...

-2011 M5 (take into fact that my lease is up in may, how quick would i be able to get one.)

what will give me the most enjoyment to drive, but yet I live in NY and commute to NJ, weather gets a little shaky, so practical every day car. Snow, Rain, Summer, Track.

Which one will produce the most enjoying handling, speed, sound, and practicality.

LET ME KNOW GUYS, I NEED YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS ONE.

Why did they have to name it the X5 M, why couldn't they name it the MX, or XM, or M X5 if anything. the M3 isn't called the 335 M. The M5 isn't the 535 M, and the dam M6 isnt the 650 M. So WTF why did they do this to us. If I where to ask someone which car do you like better Bmw M3 or X5 M, they automatically think M3 because they hear "X5"... not right.

M3 would be my choice. I didnt like the x5m when i drove it a couple weeks ago, the m5 is to early to tell but typically will be very heavy with better straight line than the m3 but not as nimble as the m3. M3 with snow tires is perfectly fine in the snow we get here in then northeast (NJ/NY/CT), and is the best of all worlds for bmw.

Given what you have in your garage, it would seem the M3 isn't adding much value.

It's a great car, but you're losing an SUV and assuming you want the same type of utility to augment your sport/s cars, the X5M (love or hate the name) seems to be the best option (and it's quicker than an M3 )

FWIW, it's a significant step up in handling, speed and electronics from a Cayenne Turbo (sorry P-car fans).

My $.02

Edit - saw you have a RR - then you could go either way, but my nod (for obvious reasons) is X5M.

Those are the cars in my driveway...Not all necessarily mine. Range Rover went back 2 months ago, 7 series went back 2 weeks ago, M5 is my Brothers, 997 Turbo is my other brothers, Gallardo is my pops, I got the CTT (lease is up) got to decide... and is the X5M really faster then the M3?!?!?, also how do you think the X5M handles compared to the M5

It's likely as quick (or in real world 0-60) quicker (not faster) than the M3. Much easier to launch a AWD vehicle

Inside Line:
Switching cars and techniques, we backed up BMW's claims of explosive acceleration from the 2008 M3. Launching the rear-drive coupe requires prudence, but getting it right results in a 4.3-second run to 60 mph as measured with a 1-foot rollout (4.6 seconds from an honest dead stop). Continuing unabated down the drag strip, the Bavarian's quarter-mile time is 12.7 seconds at 112 mph.

M5 should outhandle the X5///M:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times
  • BMW has indicated that the X5///M will run lap times at/quicker than the E46 M3 (last generation). 8:22 according to the Wiki article above.
  • E60 M5 ran 8:13
That said, I really don't think on public roads that you could tell much difference.

On a (very long/dry) track, yes.

Having everything said and done my research, I have come to a consensus, that the X5 M is the beastly most amazing SUV for me. One more question to pick your brain. My friend has an option on his M5 where his side bolsters are active in each turn. Do they offer that on the X5 M? Do you think theyre going to come out with more options as the year goes by?

Yes, active seat / comfort (adjustable bolsters) are available on this package:

Active ventilated seat package - $1,900
Multi-contour seats
Front ventilated seats
Active seat for driver

No, I don't believe there will be any mid-year upgrades/changes. Frankly, I don't know what they could add

It really comes down to if you want/need to drive an SUV. If so, easy choice. The M3 is an awesome vehicle too.

Can't really go wrong with any ///M - even an SUV version

I understand that it comes with the power side bolsters if you choose the Multi Contour Seats, but I am wondering if they will come with the option where those power side bolsters are "active" and move in each turn to hold the driver in place. I know my friend has it in his M5, and its just an amazing option. Makes the M driving experience a tad more fun.

My pick would be the 4-door M3. Doesn't look quite as nice as the coupe but is a little more practical. The first batch of M5's are gonna cost you since a lot of people will be willing to pay a dealership markup at first. This will be my last SUV. I miss having a smaller, lighter vehicle!

I believe it's the same. Someone with more M5 experience might inform us differently.

My X5M has the 'standard' sport seats.. They are fine unless you're planning to track the car (IMO).

The X5M is a solid performer, but I think performance SUVs are kind of dumb.
