I love the CTS-V but seeing this makes me think they could have done more with that big V8.

That can be said about the M3 motor as well. Look at the OP's car! GM could have made it a 700hp car in a heartbeat but I'm not so sure it would still get 26mpg on the hwy. They'd also have to throw in more expensive parts and the cost would start creeping up and up. I think they're happy with a safe tune and safe boost and good price point while still making 556hp.

26 mpg's on the highway??? Maybe I've been driving around with my e-brake accidentally engaged.

Agree 100%. The CTS-V motor is certainly conservatively tuned and boosted from the factory....lots of easy (i.e. cheap) additional hp to be had.
