K&N/BMC Filter ruins MAF?
#17
I don't want to start an e-fight but the truth is oil-based filters are just that. Oil based. Oil WILL pass threw the filter. The oil WILL land on and dirty the sensor.
The OEM are paper based.
The MAF were not designed to have oil passed onto them.
The sensors on these P-Cars are sensitive, most car's aren't quiet as touchy.
Enough of me playing devils advocate. I'm still going to install an oil based intake system on my 01' 986 S just because the OEM system is too quiet for my taste.

I have had K&N on numerous MAF cars and to date have not had an issue. I think things go wrong either when the MAF is already on its way out (i.e. issues with the early MAFs) or the filter is over oiled and not allowed to throughly soak into the filter. As previously stated for every good experience there seems to be a bad experience. This of course is just my opinion and until serious testing is performed, they are all just that.

Hi...Newbee here.
I just bought a 99 boxster and the CEL went on. The shop said its a faulty MAF.
Is it safe to drive around with a busted MAF? I will get it fixed but not scheduled for another week.
Thanks in advance..
