I think its a fair assesment to assume (ignorant "the Boxster isn't a 911" comments aside) that this discussion will always be split near 50/50 - One has a bit more power and feel, and the other has spot on driving characterisitcs and build quality/materials. If you are truly a car-guy(or gal... jodi) you can't go wrong with either, they are both stuffed with redeeming qualities. Time to take them both for a spin and see what's the right fit for YOU. Afterall... at the end of the day you're the one who GETS to see it sitting in the garage each morning!
I adore the Boxsters... would gladly take a 2.5 on a road trip any day of the week, they are one of the most enjoyable driving cars one can hope to obtain... Then again, so is a 914 with a third of the power of Boxsters these days. Regretfully our talent as drivers usually runs out far before the power of our cars, regardless of make/model. The Boxster (986 or 987 generations) and the s2000 are both top-tier driving machines.
And the Only reason you would buy a 911 is you cannot afford a Gt and it goes on and on from there.
whoa whoa whoa definitely didn't mean to offend, just trying to throw other voices (not my own) of reason into the mix. you have to admit some of the posts here are definitely biased towards boxsters . . . people saying the s2000 feels heavier when its almost 200 pounds lighter . . . . people complaining about the polar moment of inertia being un-ideally placed at the knees . . . .
here's a pretty entertaining review, don't kill the messenger
That wasn't much of a voice of reason. You took a pretty civil Boxster vs S2000 discussion and tried to turn it into a Boxster vs 911 pissing match. Good job. Thanks for the contribution.

porschepet and ijeremy,
thanks kindly for the kind words about me and my Boxster. She's like a child to me! Hahaha! Yes, she has her own blanket she gets covered up with at night. LOL! I can't help that I'm a bit bias towards Boxster's!
I have an appreciation for all makes and models of Porsche's. I always enjoy driving our 996 a ton. It's just an entirely different monster than my car is! Variety is the spice of life, right? There are qualities about all pcars that are admirable. I wish I could have one of each!
Besides, what's the use of debating which is better? We're all enthusiasts here, right? That's what counts!
Cheers!

USDMEJ,
I happen to own both a highly modified boxster s, and a 2007 997 GT3 RS. In addition to being able to afford them both , I can attest to each vehicle's handling qualities. Be assured, that there are no flies on my boxster. And if there are, then they're paying rent ! I'll take the boxster any day over the RS for its balance, poise and nimbleness. You and Mr. Hammond are welcome anytime to drive them both. Thats' if you can afford it.
hey everyone, this is a very interesting thread. For those of you tracking your boxsters... how is the maintenance costs compared to a 996Turbo? I just sold my turbo, and looking into something a bit more affordable to track. The 986 as well as the AP1 automatically come towards the top of that list. Thanks!
