I know caymans have taller gears down low to slow down its 0-60 time and shorter 6th gear to give it a slower top speed all in an attempt to advertise it as inferior to the 911. This is comparing to a non-turbo.
Not sure how it works compared to a turbo as o don't have the specs readily available ony phone but I would be interested if anyone has the gear ratios handy.

From 100km to 200km, the TT Tip did it all in third gear while the CS Turbo had to do 1 shift. We're now looking to see whether we can fit the final ratio of the 997 (3.44) into the CS. What do you guys think ?
I am his friend.. my name is Andy... I had discuss about it with Mike. and I also believed that is because of the gear ratio. The turbo kit is great. It does increase much hp and torque. I like it personally. But i was surprise by the difference between 997TT and Cayman Turbo.

Just as I suspected, similar result as the 911 Carrera S, which I personally owned prior to the Cayman S. The Carrera S feels a lot torquier down low, especially the first two gears, simply because 2nd gear topped out at just a hair over 62mph, while the Cayman S can carry 2nd gear much higher, an advantage that became very obvious on the track being able to go 1 gear lower than the 911 while staying in the sweet spot of the rpm range.
Switching the Final Drive to 3.44 is definitely a good thought to give the Cayman more grunt down low. Unfortunately, that would reduce our top gear even more so, and 6th gear cruising would be unbearable. Right now, 80mph is hovering at around 3500rpm. a 3.44 would bump it close to if not over 4000rpm, not to mention the increase fuel consumption.
To do it "correctly," the final drive should also be lowered, along with the 6th gear, which would put us closer to that of the 997GT2:
Just doing the final drive will be fun first thru fifth, but the sacrifice to drivability would be a deal breaker for me personally. awesome topic btw, thanks for bringing it up. now it's time to go to the local superior court to drop off the trial by written declaration for my speeding ticket and head to work.

can you provide some source as to where you got that number? everywhere I looked says 3.44 for the final drive ratio.
csmookie: it'd be good to confirm the octane level between the two cars especially because that could make a huge difference on boosted cars. a TPC turbo cayman running 93-95 octane puts out 30rwhp+ more than someone running 91 octane.

3.44 is correct. 3.06 is the final drive ratio for the TT TIP

The appeal of having a factory turbo charged p-car is of course hard to deny but one thing I would recommend is for you to drive one. Not a 10 minute test drive of course since the novelty of being in a 997Turbo in itself would make you bias, but really DRIVE one; around town, to the supermarket and on the track.
I had a 996TT, and I'm sure we all know that the 996TT would've been a much easier platform to get 500hp+ out of the motor than trying to turbocharge the 3.4L after the fact. Many Cayman owners I know aspire to one day own a 911. I went the other way around, the feel of the motor in the back never "grew on me."

How many TPC turbos have been Installed on a 2.7 Liter ? I did a google search and it said ZERO?
You know I want it
still in discussions with Alex trying to committ to the the 1st one is tough though. My Cayman is my baby .
