Please help! Cayman Headlights HID conversion

Hello guys,

I need your knowledge. I have 2006 Cayman, and my headlights are not HID. I would like to convert to HID, but I don't want to use the aftermarket kit because I don't want the light defective warning on gauges. Do you think if I buy the stock blasts and the bulbs, would it be no problem?

You can use aftermarket kit and it would not have any warning. I did that on mine, both headlight and fog light. It works like a charm. Easy to install too.

If you want to go the OEM route, you have to buy new headlight and it gonna cost a bomb. You cannot fit OEM Xenon kit on non-HID headlamp.

Does anyone know what size of the bulb do I need to get for aftermarket conversion kit? it's 2008 Cayman non HID. Doesn't it get light error warning?

I'm using the 35W. I think for the headlamp the size is H7 and H11 for the fog light. You can check it in your manual to confirm this. The aftermarket HID bulb should be the same size as the stock halogen bulb.

I didnt get any error. But maybe you can ask others who did this too, just to make sure. Maybe I just got lucky.

I'm using O-nex kit. Supposedly made in japan. But I have used it for like a year and a half. Still works perfectly. I'm using 6000k.

Here it is: http://www.automotivelightingusa.com...de/hid-kits/h7

But I got it locally.

vroom is correct about bulb sizing. i guess he got lucky with the brand. i had some troubles when i installed mine. it shows an error on my car but it doesn't bother me because it doesn't flicker due to variable voltage anymore.

i also had to modify the base of the h7 bulb to not show the shadow of the wire that runs from top to bottom of the bulb.

if you need any help, you may feel free to contact me.

This question is targeted towards Vroom and anybody else who has experience installing the HID kit on a halogen outfit. Was the installation straight forward plug and play or were there adjustments that had to be made for proper usage? For reference I drive a '03 Boxster.

straight plug and play. just make sure you purchase a harness and warning eliminators. now sure about the 03 but i'm pretty sure that the voltage is not flat as well (not constant) sothe hid kit may flicker. my eliminators got rid of that problem

Excellent and thank you for the quick response. Where did you buy your eliminators/harnesses and if you do not remember, would you by chance have any suggestions?

My apologies to the original poster for clogging your thread but I am not able to send private messages yet and I am left with this ultimatum.

have you looked at the system vroom is using? sounds like the kit he is using has the eliminators built in or somehow tricks the electrical system. usually most places that sell hid kits sell the harnesses as well because they are needed to handle the initial power draw.

Hi, everything aln said is spot on. The kit I used does have harnesses and everything you need to make the HID works. But I'm not sure if it works the same on a 986

I too have my 07 Cayman S converted to HID using the DDM Tuning Raptor 35W Kit 5000K with no problems. I've been using for 8 months now, no warning, no flicker.

How did you modify the base of the H7 to not show the shadow of the wire? Please educate me..

Thanks.
