Porsche Cayman GT4 Roll Bar and Harness Install at GMP Performance

Caymans are adaptable little creatures, walking the fine line between daily driver and track car with the ability of absolutely mastering both sides. This adaptability has always made them incredibly popular at the track, with many an owner improving it as they improve themselves. So when the Cayman GT4 arrived at dealerships, touting track mastery straight from the factory and offering a whole new level of performance from your Cayman, it wasn't long at all before they popped up at race tracks everywhere.

Without the need for many upgrades, that leaves owners sticking to the basics when it comes to the aftermarket life: harnesses and roll bars. And that is exactly what this gorgeous blue beauty swung by for.

Parts Installed:
Cayman 981/GT4 Cantrell Motorsports Bolt-In Rollbar
Schroth Profi II-6 Hans Seat Belt Harnesses
Rennline Rev4 Fully Adjustable Gas Pedal

The Build

We're ready to roll with the roll bar!

Porsche said of the GT4 that it is their "tribute to all the motorsport enthusiasts and performance motivators. To all those who really do mean business. To all the victories of tomorrow, to all the personal bests still to be achieved." Now, with safety measures fully in place, the owner of this GT4 can concentrate on nothing but living up to that motto.

Porsche GT4 with FVD Roll Bar and Schroth Harnesses

When the blue GT4 above came to visit, the excitement in the shop was palpable. Many of us were anxiously awaiting the opportunity to work on one of these bad boys and the blue beauty was our first. Little did we realize at the time that we'd be seeing these on the regular, routinely having at least one in the shop ever since and all wanting the same thing: roll bars!

This white GT4 had a particularly lengthy trip in order to reach us. We picked it up from its original location on the other side of Chicago, Illinois, and delivered it to its new Fort Mill, South Carolina home, with two track enthusiasts ready to stretch its legs as soon as possible.

After testing the car at a track event, it came directly back to us for its roll bar and harnesses. The bar of choice this time came from FVD Brombacher and matched with Schroth racing harnesses to ensure optimal protection.

Click here for the build gallery!

Before the bar

The FVD roll bar requires a fair bit of modification to make the product fit and appear seamless to the GT4, but the end result is a fantastic bar with a fantastic fit. Below are some shots we took along the way to show exactly what is needed to make the bar look right at home, as well as the finished install.

Stopping by with another one! This Agate Grey GT4 chose a Cantrell roll bar with a little twist from our other installs: this bar was powdercoated red to add an extra splash of color to the interior. With red Schroth harnesses to match, it's sure to pop.

Not content to merely install these bars, we decided that it was time to build our own!

Introducing the GMP Performance Cayman GT4 Bolt-In Harness Bar

The build starts off as many have before: a bare interior just begging for some upgrades.

After deconstructing the interior, that's when we truly get down to work.

The finished bar, before and after powdercoating.

The finished product is all installed and ready to see some track time

New GT4 Harness Bar from RSS

We've featured bars from Cantrell, FVD, and our own creation but we recently came upon two more options that we wanted to offer our GT4 clients.

Introducing the Porsche 981 Cayman GT4 950 Lightweight and 951 Hybrid Harness Bars from RSS

About the 951 Hybrid Harness Bar

The RSS “951-Hybrid' Series 2pt Harness Bar is engineered to maximize function, add rigidity, minimize added weight (+20 lbs), offer generous occupant seating space and integrate with your interior. The Bar is a safety inspired design which secures safety harnesses directly behind the occupants' shoulders. A one piece main hoop mounts to the chassis cross member and features a Straight Top Tube for a stronger main hoop. Diagonal Tubes provide additional structural support without obstructing the driver's rearward visibility. The Bar allows generous seat base travel with standard, OE bucket or racing bucket seats. Retains use of factory seat belts. Bolt-In installation, carpet, panel and tab trimming is required, Professional installation is recommended for a factory installed look. Designed, constructed and powder coated at RSS utilizing 1.50 inch DOM with precision cut reinforced mounting plates.
