Rip Off Alert - Martin Gausvik @ AFI Performance - Edmonton

Just a heads up for any locals looking to get some tuning / engine work done on your non-P.Cars. Exercise EXTREME caution or completely avoid dealing with

Martin Gausvik @ AFI Performance in Edmonton.

Martin promised me 800 WHP in my Escalade. I gave him a cheque for $20,000 and my Suburban. He was to order a 3.3L Whipple supercharger, an FLT Stage 5 4L80E, all parts required to stroke the trucks 6.2L to 418 cubic inches. Wheels, Tires, Suspension. etc. All this work was to be completed by September 2008.

What do I have to show for our plans? A beat up suburban, which he returned after driving it for 6 months and a $20,000 lighter bank account. He ordered NONE of the parts and when I asked for my money back he says, "I might take me a little while to come up with that kind of money".

I have a lawyer involved. I'd be happy to pay an additional 20K in fees to wipe this dude out.

sounds like his business was about to fold anyway, and your $20k just funded him to pay off some debts. not sure what you can do with an extra $20K to get him out of business.

this is why i usually buy the parts first and have the shop install it.

To keep you informed about the legal matters, I just got of the phone with my lawyer. We issued a claim, on March 10 (?), 2009 and AFI didn't respond within the 20 day response period. We should have a Judge issued Default Judgment (this = guilty: no court required) today or tomorrow. By not responding to the claim, guilt is given. If he had responded to the claim, we would have gone to court to resolve. We are past that now. That is followed up by a writ of enforcement and then Dawg the Bounty Hunter goes to work.

I think I got that down correct. I'm sure Pro will correct me if I got it screwed up.

I'm still pissed at this situation and it didn't even happen to me.
Like I said before Mike, I hope you get more back than what you originally paid him.

I'm surprised about how calm you are about this. Props for that.

Why would you front someone 20k in the first place? If they were concerned about you paying them, hell, they had your ride, I just don't get it.

Sorry go got screwed, but damn man?

that's so unlucky. Not sure if you can seize assets either. Have your lawyer pull a PPSA on his company and see what the banks have on his assets first, then you wait in line to see what you can get out of the business.

Again, with him ignoring means he does not give a 'rat's a$$'. That's actually bad news in my opinion. Sorry to be so negative, but just don't want you to spend anymore money into this situation. But do wish you the best of luck recuperating some of your $$ back!

I hear you, it is easy to second guess after the fact.

Sorry about the kick in the nuts while you are down.
