Dumb question? 06 vs 08 Cayenne S?
Gents:
We are talking wife's car. She now understands the benefit of power, but usually is a fairly gentle driver. Current ride is a fairly well kept V6 Audi allroad 2.7tt. It is slightly underpowered and I didn't mod it because I have seen so many reliability issues when the boost gets turned up. Finally leaving Audi-land as I am sick of the lack of decent info and not having a good indy mx within reasonable distance. When it is right, it is still a wonderful car. Don't want to buy newer as I am sick of steep depreciation. BUT.. onward.. the question...
Considering several cars for her. Most, you dont' want to know about. We are also considering a Cayenne. Expect to put under 7k per year on it. YOUR OPINIONS PLEASE?
08 Cayenne V6 51k. No warranty
08 Cayenne S 60K Fact warranty [5 months remaining]
06 Cayenne S 41K - timed out on warranty. For what it is worth, it had been CPO'd but now being sold by non-P dealer.
All cars very clean and presented as well cared for with no obvious flaws [meaning, nothing until I sign on the dotted line.]
Unless you surprise me, I expect the V8 is out. I am thinking the decision is between the 08 with 60k and 06 with 41k. So, year vs miles? I am a bit surprised at how difficult it is proving to get detailed info on the many upgrades with the 08. BTW, I did a search prior to posting.
Last comment- I am retired. Still own a slew of interesting Porsches. I do most of my 911/930/GT2 work myself. I hope to do some of the Cayenne myself.
Thanks for any opinions.

go for the 08 Cayenne S.. atleast you still have warranty.
although the 06 S has less mileage, take note that it's out of warranty.. if you are leaning on getting this 06, make sure to get the maintenance history of this car especially if the coolant pipes are still original (plastic) or replaced (with aluminum pipes)..

your still on the hook for coolant tubes with or without a warranty so better make sure there are aluminum tubes in that 08 or else haggle on the 06's price, get a credit union to finance the warranty and not a dealer...........dealer extended warranties are crap.
If you say your going to pay cash, just put a majority share of it down for now, get the credit union to finance just to get their powertrain warranty, engine and tranny only. Dealer offered me extended warranty for 3500, I got mine for 800 from CU.
You can use your p skills to change out the Coils and Cardan shaft as issues present, fairly inexpensive when it comes to the known bugs in P!Gs.

Thanks guys. Appreciate your thoughts. A Cayenne hadn't even been on the agenda until I realized they were holding up a lot better than I had first expected.
Interesting thought on getting power train warranty through her CU. We will check into that.

I think also besides the warranty, which is a big issue, and always good to have the major difference is that in 2008 the rear lights/ front light and interior changed a little, go with the 08 S model with warranty if you can dish out the extra cash....well worth it....

Providing the mileage is not too high, you should always get the newest car you can afford. In this case, I'd probably get the 08 S because it's gotten most if the bugs out even though it has higher mileage. I'm not a fan of the 957 body work, looks bloated and reminds me of plastic clad GM vehicles but still, it's a better buy.
