V6 versus V8?

V6 versus V8?
Is there a difference in reliability between the V6 and the V8 Cayennes?
I ask this because in some other make/models people have advised to stay away from certain engines for example (BMW V6 > V8, Audi V6> 4cyl Turbo)

Assuming you're referring to the 2011 models based on your other posts, it's probably too soon to tell. The Dec issue of Excellence mag has a great article on the first gen Cayenne, I believe someone posted it on one of these forums. You may want to check that out.

The V-6 is an updated version of the engine introduced at the 2007 midlife makeover of the first-generation Cayenne. It's a member of the Volkswagen Group's engine family. The V-8 is Porsche's engine. When the merger deal was signed Porsche was asked to use VW engines for the first two years of the current gen Cayennes. Expect to see Porsche's own V-6 from 2013 onwards on the base Cayennes. The panamera has Porsche's own V-6 which has had rave reviews. I would personally trust Porsches engines anyday over VW's. But that's just me.

i read a review saying the Panamera V6 had the engine from Cayenne.
totally different engine or just some changes here and there? they both put out the same specs it seems.

Very similar specs, but totally different engines. As w00t mentioned, the V6 in the Cayenne is a VW sourced engine, while the Panamera has Porsche's newly built V6, which is a derivative of the V8. You can read about it more in this article.

The panamera's V-6 is Porsche's own engine and is very different. I have driven it. It is supposed to be very smooth more responsive and "satisfying". But be mindful of the fact that the transmission in the Pana is the sporty PDK and the Cayenne's VW-sourced V-6 is teamed with a more conventional automatic with torque convertor the Tiptronic made by Aisin, a Japanese company which is still considered to be very good but probably not as good as the PDK. I love the PDK on my C4S.
slw, the vw v6 is supposed to be used for two model cycles ... your post on probably no sooner than 2019 is likely more accurate but dealer seems to think it may be sooner. Who knows ?

You are right about the Audi sourced V6 in the Hybrid, but pretty sure the V6 in the Panamera is a new, Porsche built engine.

That is what my dealer told me too.
