Congratulations to Action Express Racing for a solid 3rd place finish in the prototype class. Co-drivers Joao Barbosa, Terry Borcheller, Max Papis, Christian Fittipaldi, and JC France piloted the damaged #9 prototype to a podium finish. Action Express and Lozano Brothers Porting independently developed the Porsche Cayenne SUV V8 and mounted the now 5.0 liter engine to their Riley Daytona Prototype chassis.

Not pretty I'm afraid. Daytona Prototypes are kind of dumpy. The bodies and aerodynamics are all built to the same specification in the name of keeping racing affordable. The engine, however, is all Porsche. Curiously, Porsche does not sanction the V8 for racing. They only support the flat 6 so the racing V8 had to be developed independently. Despite being 30 pounds heavier and 2 inches taller than the flat 6, Action Express felt the V8 had the power and reliability to win. After the 4.8L engine was massaged to 5.0L, and redline was increased 300 RPM, it produced around 500 hp. The result - 3rd place finish this year after sustaining damage and an overall win last year.
