still overheating

Have a 04 cayenne s that I just did coolant pipes upgrade on. Car temp sits at line between 180 and 260. It won't go past that.Even after hours of letting engine run. So it doesn't completely over heat but is still 2 hot. Im driving it everyday with a/c on so it stays in middle. What's the problem? It's no longer leaking and upgrade seems to be fine. Starter was also replaced. ????????? Please help

Did it overheat before replacing the pipes?

If not - I'd be suspicious of the thermostat - it's mounted to the plate that the three pipes go into at the front of the engine.

And are both your fans working? The AC one should come on whenever the AC is working, the other one is temperature dependent. You intimate that the temp stays at 180F when the AC is on - in that case - I'd be making certain both fans are working correctly.

Thanks alot!!
The car was doing same thing before upgrade obviously leaking aswell.
How would I know if other fan turns on? If I have 2 replace thermostat is that also a ridiculous job that requires lots of labor hours?

Cayennes are notorios for water pump failure too. It could be a sign of a failing water pump.

I've heard of Cayenne pumps leaking.. did they also use self-destructing plastic impellers like BMW did?

Ah - and the people who did the aluminum pipes didn't suggest a new thermostat? (they are pretty cheap.. and NO work to do if done while doing the pipes..)

As far as ridiculous - about as ridiculous as replacing the pipes. Not much different in the job since the cover that holds the pipes has to come off and the thermostat removed/replaced.

As far as the fans - LOOK. With the engine hot, and the AC on - both fans should be running, pretty much at max speed.

I have an 04 with 117k miles. On days over 110 here it will get above 180. But when I tow my boat it almost always reaches 240 in the summer. When that happens you can smell something nauseating in the cabin. I took it to the dealer when it was under warranty and they could do nothing so I just live with it.

hey guys, for grins, can you turn on the AC to see if the fans that kick in help cool the motor?

Turning the ac helps but it's no long term solution.
