Porsche Cayenne interior trim removal DIY 955/957 2009 GTS
sup everyone, new to the forum! thought i'd contribute a nice DIY to remove your interior trim for wrapping/buying some super baller real CF trim, etc... i looked and looked online for a DIY to remove the trim and came up empty as far as pics and a nice tutorial... lots of writing but no hard pics of how to remove stuff... so i figured i'd make one! i do vinyl wraps on the side as a side job here in Seattle Wa. this is a good friend of mines car. went in 50% blind on removing all the trim, kinda nervous, but didn't break anything and everything came off/on nicely! this is in no way a commercial post, i do watermark my pics since i found some of my photos on ebay a while back with misleading info/materials >=(.
here we go:
TOOLS NEEDED, NOT MUCH AT ALL! MOST IMPORTANT IS THE WIDE FLAT PLASTIC PRY BAR!
2 BITS, 1 IS A TORX, THE OTHER IS THE 8 POINT FLAT TIP (SORRY DON'T KNOW EXACT SIZE)...
CENTER CONSOLE, REMOVE 2 8 POINT FLAT TIPS.
TAKE OFF PLASTIC TRIM PIECE.
SHIFT **** PULL UP STRAIGHT, PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL IS THE EASIEST. YOU CAN TURN CAR ON, SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, PULL UP. MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT PRESSING THE SHIFTER BUTTON WHILE PULLING UP. ONCE OFF, YOU CAN PULL UP ON WHITE SHAFT AND PUT BACK INTO PARK.
WHEN PUTTING **** BACK ON, MAKE SURE YOU PULL THE BUTTON OUT TO ABOUT THIS POINT WHILE PRESSING THE **** BACK ONTO THE SHAFT. HOLD WITH ONE HAND PRESSING BUTTON OUT, USE OTHER HAND TO GIVE IT A NICE POUND DOWN AND YOUR GOOD TO GO. IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE BUTTON OUT, AND POUND IT DOWN, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE BUTTON TO SHIFT GEARS. I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY.
LIFT SHIFT SURROUND TRIM OFF STARTING FROM BACK WHERE YOU REMOVED THE 2 SCEWS. USE PLASTIC PRYBAR IF NEEDED TO RELEASE CLIPS ALONG THE SIDES. U WIL DISCONNECT THE CONTROLS WITH 1 CLIP!
SHIFTER GATE REMOVES EASILY. U WILL SEE A 6/8 LITTLE PLASTIC TABS THAT SEAT INTO THE LITTLE BLOCK OUTS, U CAN USE FINGER NAIL OR A SMALL FLAT HEAD SCREWDRIVER TO PUSH THEM IN AND RELEASE THE SHIFT GATE TRIM. DON'T NEED TO PRESS TO HARD, COMES OUT PRETTY EASY.
UNSCREW 4 TORX BITS TO GET THE CONTROLS OFF THE SHIFT SURROUND TRIM AND REMOVE. SUPER EASY.

KEY HOLE TRIM USE YOUR WIDE FLAT PLASTIC PRY BAR AND JUST WORK YOUR WAY AROUND THE BOTTOM EDGE, LEFT & RIGHT ALONG THE TRIM AND IT WILL POP OFF. THERE ARE 2 WIDE TABS AROUND THE TOP OF THE KEY HOLE SECTION, THIS IS WHERE YOU USE YOUR SKINNY PRY BAR AND PRY FROM THE TOP OF TO RELEASE THE CLIPS. FEELS LIKE YOU MIGHT BREAK IT, BUT THIS IS A STRONG BENDABLE PLASTIC THAT HAS A LOT OF GIVE. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON'T BEND THE LOOSE "TRIM" PARTS THAT SHOULD BE KINDA FLAPPIN WHILE YOU PRY AT THE TOP CLIPS. THE RUBBER BEZEL AROUND KEY HOLE JUST POPS OUT. TOOLS NEEDED
BACK VENT JUST POPS OUT, YOU WILL SEE THE 4 MAIN CLIP AREAS. THE ALUMINUM TRIM UNCLIPS FROM THE PLASTIC VENT, SIMPLY PRY WITH SMALL FLAT HEAD AND YOUR GOOD TO GO.
LOWER CIGARETTE LIGHTER TRIM IS EPOXIED TO THE PLASTIC TRIM. ON MY FRIENDS CAR, IT JUST CAME OFF WITH A LITTLE TUG AND WIGGLE TO BREAK THE EPOXY SEAL. BE CAREFUL, THIS TRIM PIECE IS VERY BRITTLE AND IF YOU BEND TOO MUCH IT WILL BREAK/LOOSE IT'S SHAPE. FOR INSTALLING, I USED PLYERS TO PRESS THE TRIM EDGES A BIT & JUST USED SUPERGLUE AND GAVE IT ABOUT 5 DABS. BECAUSE THE EDGES WERE PRESSED IN A BIT, THE TRIM HELD TIGHTLY AGAINST THE BASE ALONG WITH THE SUPER GLUE FOR A SECURE HOLD.
LONG DOOR TRIM ARE ALL THE SAME FOR ALL 4 DOORS. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE FLAT WIDE PRY BAR!!!! THE SKINNY ONES DON'T GET ENOUGH SUPPORT LEVERAGE TO GET A GOOD "POP", YOU WILL RISK BENDING THE TRIM WITH THE SKINNY PRYBAR!!! SO PRY WITH THE WIDE BAR AND SLIDE IT SIDE TO SIDE, IT WILL "POP" OUT OF THE CLIPS ON IT'S OWN. GIVE IT A LITTLE WIGGLE AS YOU GO SIDE TO SIDE AND IT WILL COME OUT NICE AND EASY.
SMALLER DOOR TRIM SAME THING MAKE SURE YOU USE THE FLAT WIDE PRY BAR!!! A LITTLE PRY A LITTLE WIGGLE, POPS RIGHT OUT.
KEY HOLE TRIM, AGAIN USE THE FLAT WIDE PRY BAR!!! SAME THING SIDE TO SIDE A LITTLY PRY HERE AND THERE. THE RUBBER BEZEL AROUND THE ACTUAL KEY HOLE CAN BE REMOVED 1ST OR IT WILL POP OFF WHILE YOU PRY, DOESN'T MATTER. YOU WILL SEE THERE ARE 2 FLAT CLIPS ON THE TOP OF THE KEYHOLE TRIM. THESE ARE THE ONES GUYS HAVE A PROBLEM RELEASING. USE THE FLAT HEAD/SKINNY PRY BAR AND RELEASE IT WHEN YOU HAVE THE LOWER TRIM OFF THE CLIPS AND THE TRIM IS KINDA HANGING. A LITTLE FORCE IS NEEDED AS WELL, BE CAREFUL YOU DON'T BEND THE ALUMINUM TRIM SINCE IT IS PLASTIC WELDED TO THE KEYHOLE BEZEL.
RIGHT SIDE STEERING WHEEL TRIM, AGAIN USE THE FLAT WIDE PRY BAR!!! A LITTLE PRY/WIGGLE AND IT'S OUT.
DASH BOARD TRIM LONG, AGAIN USE THE FLAT WIDE PRY BAR!!! MOVE BACK AND FOURTH WITH A LITTLE WIGGLE AND IT POPS RIGHT OUT.
DASH BOARD KEY LOCK BEZEL, AGAIN USE THE FLAT WIDE PRY BAR!!! LITTLE PRY AND ITS OUT.
SHIFT SURROUND TRIM:
TAKE OFF SHIFT **** BY PULLING UP ON IT. KEEP YOUR HEAD AWAY SO YOU DON'T HIT YOURSELF. YOU CAN PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL FOR MORE CLEARANCE. ONCE OFF YOU CAN PULL UP ON THE PLASTIC PART TO SHIFT AROUND. SO DON'T PANIC, YOU CAN PUT YOUR CAR IN PARK/GEAR/WHATEVER YOU WANT.
REMOVE 2 SCEWS HERE AND REMOVE PLASTIC TRIM.
PULL UP ON SHIFT SURROUND TRIM FROM THE BACK, THEN SIDES, THEN FRONT. YOU CAN PULL THIS TRIM OFF WITH CAR IN PARK OR NEUTRAL, WHATEVER YOU PREFER.
UNPLUG THIS UNIT, 1 PLUG AND THAT'S IT!
SHIFT GATE TRIM, USE A FLAT HEAD TO POKE AT THE CLIPS AROUND THE EDGES. THEY ARE NOT SUPER TIGHT, SO IT COMES OFF VERY EASY.
REINSTALLING SHIFT ****, MAKE SURE YOU PULL THE BUTTON PART OUT A BIT, TO ABOUT THIS FAR. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SHIFT GEARS ONCE **** IS ON CAR. NOT A BIGGIE, PULL BACK OFF AND TRY AGAIN. I DID IT 3 TIMES AND GOT IT.
