Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40 (aka Mobil 1 Synthetic Straight Forty)

make sure you DO NOT put dinosaur oil, as it will damage your engine.

You can find the oil for $6.99 at walmart, or at any Mobil gas station.

Make sure you buy at least 3 quarts and put one quart of oil only into your engine, after putting the quart, check the oil again, and add more if necessary, make sure you don't exceed the max. level. Store the other two quarts in your trunk for emergencies (let's say you're in the middle of nowhere and your engine needed oil)

yup, mine needed a quart at about 900 miles, and now I have a spare in the back, just in case.

I've had to add 1 quart on two occasions in the last 3 months of ownership. I've never had a car eat so much oil. Why do these things burn so much oil anyway? Seems like crappy engineering to me.

03LX470 is an unknown quantity at this point
I was curious whether it needs oil only if driven hard i.e. at high RPMs

I've got about 2000 kms or 1250 miles on mine. It hasnt asked for oil yet. Or have I just spokent too soon and it may come up in the next few hundred kms?

I havent driven it on high RPMs (at least not yet).

I put my first quart in at about 1250 miles and nothing since, and yes I redline occasionally.
It's normal for these engines to require oil esp. when it's just getting broken in. The consumption will slow with time.

Completely normal now though.... unless you see a small puddle under the pan, then you have a problem.

Should I be concerned about NOT burning oil? (Am I driving like a geezer in a Grand Marquis?) I already have 2,600 miles on my '09 6-speed GTS beacuse I wanted to get it broken in quickly. And while I did drive it pretty gently for the first 2,000 miles (almost always under 4500 rpm), lately I've been much more exuberant and the oil level still hasn't budged. Does anyone else have a non-drinker V8 Cayenne?

Porsche917 will become famous soon enough
I think the owners manual says 1 liter every 1000km is acceptable.... or something similar... also manufacturers tend to ship cars to dealers a tad low occasionally... the dealer should catch it before its sold but i guess sometimes it could get overlooked.
