Wanted to share my thoughts, as it seems not many cars have been delivered. As a disclaimer - I am not the owner, it is my Father's car - but we tend to share, and I have put on the bulk of the miles thus far.

We went to test drive and ended up driving home the showroom car - a LOADED P4S in Carbon Grey Metallic over Luxor Beige full leather with 18 way sport adaptive seats. 20" RS Spyder Design wheels, Sport Plus, air suspension, Sport Exhaust, etc...

I own a 997 Carrera S, and from the reviews was not expecting the two cars to share much in the way of driving dynamics. Expecting this going in allowed me to truly enjoy the experience... as if you are looking for the raw / visceral experience of a Carrera, it is not to be found. Jumping to the end - I LOVE IT. The Sport Plus & Sport Exhaust options (to me) are must tick boxes on the order form. When I turned the exhaust "off", the car immediately lost charachter (the sound at start up alone is worth the cost). The Sport Plus mode and air suspension give the car a fantastic dual personality - much needed with the PDK gearbox.

Steering feels light as compared to the 997, in the spirit of a MB S-Class. Speed is subjective, but I never wanted for more. The car feels quick enough to be fun - but if you are looking for all out 'Bahn storming... spring for the Turbo. As for styling, let's face it... it is a love it or hate it design. After despising it in pictures for months, I found the Panamera to have tremendous road presence... and with that, I think it's quirky nature makes it beautiful. The big hatch got a tremendous ammount of comments, thumbs-up's, camera phones, etc... even here in car jaded Newport Beach (err.. New-Porsche Beach).

I hope that those of you waiting enjoy yours when it arrives. :)

testdrove the basalt black loaded launch 4s - i can't believe the same engine as my GTS capped out in 2 nd gear so early.

i could only get up 70km p/h - up in canada we are metric! - in second and it was just getting to redline so i had to go to 3rd which meant i was driving in the city in 3rd at like 3k rpm ie no torque when driving at city speed limits.

otherwise the car is absolutley amazing imo. the basalt black with the Spyder wheels were amazing. the interior is so beatiful in that full leather. comfortable and everything is where you would expect. the centre console took no more than a few minutes to master.

it was like being in a 2 seater until you looked around and reminded yourself that it is actually big.

the sport exhaust sounds so nice when you hit it. all this music coming from the rear end.

did people notice the cool way they built the split in the rear seat shoulder so you can place the seat belt in there after taking it off. it reminded me of the way you cup the seat belt in the Boxster so it hooks along the seat side and doesn't wrinkle.

Well, I guess the looks of this car is subjective but I guess it's more purposeful then beautiful.

I just had the Panamera driver's event today and it just blew my socks off on how wonderful this car drives. I drove the Panamera S, 4S and the Turbo all one after the other with a taste of the Cayenne GTS in between. It has an amazing interior, awesome ride and great handling dynamics. I guess it is something you would expect from Porsche but don't really realize how great the car is executed till you drive it. Launch control is amazing, the PDK is phenomenal and that noise from the S and 4S is to die for. The turbo exhaust is actually very subdued compared to the S and the Panamera is a force to be reckoned with.

Just thought I would share my experience here...

Panamera Technical Introduction Booklet

To satiisfy my curiosity, I recently purchased the Panamera Technical Introduction book from Suncoast. Here are some feature highlights.

Oil...

To satiisfy my curiosity, I recently purchased the Panamera Technical Introduction book from Suncoast. Here are some feature highlights.

Oil level measurement is electronic. A measurement can be made with just the ignition on, with the engine running and stationary, or while driving. Measurement is made using an ultrasonic level sensor which measures the thickness of the oil level in the pan by bouncing sound waves off of the oil/air interface at the top of the reservoir and computing the time-of-flight.

Dry Sump lubrication system with the oil reservoir in the engine for space savings.

Saddle shaped fuel tank located under the rear seats. 21 gal capacity for the S and 26 gal capacity for the 4S and Turbo. 3 magnetically coupled fuel sensors within the tank.

Engine air filter is rated for 80,000 miles or 4 years. Replacement requires removal of the front bumper cover to access the filter housing.

Standard mechanical or optional electrical adjustment of the steering wheel position.

Adaptive Air suspension with PASM normal height is 144 mm from ground to bottom of vehicle. In sport mode it lowers to 119 mm. A high mode is available at 164 mm to clear high speed bumps and steep ramps. Car reverts back to normal level once the speed exceeds 20 mph.

Pressure reservoir for the air suspension is located next to the rear bumper cover.

PDCC is controlled in conjunction with PASM via the one button PASM interface.

As discussed before, no spare. Same bottle of goop and air compressor found in the 997

Electronic parking brake will provide controlled deceleration of 0.8g via the PSM when depressed.

The rear coolbox can be retrofitted.

Button placement for the front center console seems to be deliberately assymetric, with 9 on the drivers side and 8 on the passengers side when fully loaded

Battery is located in the trunk area and has a claimed service life of at least 15 years.

Fuses are located under the dashboard side panels on both the driver and passenger side. Another set is located in the trunk next to the battery.

Generator is liquid cooled and capable of producing 190A nominal, 350A as needed.

Rear spoiler deploys ar 56 mph, goes to next position at 127 mph. For non turbo models, the spoiler moves to an intermediate position at 99 mph

Adaptive cruise control is radar based operating at 76.5 GHz. Don't drive behind a logging truck with it activated since the cone angle of the transmitter might not detect the overhanging cargo.

Speed limit display is available on roads that have the information recorded in the navigation module.

Rear turn signals will be amber in Europe and red in the US.

Tons of information on the engines and transmission, and lots of info on the subsystems I covered and those I didn't discuss. For the money a nice overview of the car.
