Should be an interesting vehicle. Being that it's supposed to be on the Q5 platform, I think you'll see a higher output version of the 2.0t as the entry level engine in the US (I'd guess around 250-260hp, enough to have an advantage over its VW kin and other competition), and then probably a Porsche tuned version of the VR6 (I'd guess somewhere in the 330-350hp range), possibly a higher output version of the 3L supercharged engine Audi uses (possibly the same one used in the Q7 S-Line as a V8 replacement), but I'm hoping that Porsche does something special for it. If they're able to cram the V8 from the Cayenne into a Cajun GTS, that would be an amazing vehicle that would be immediately on my list of vehicles.
I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't anywhere near cheap either, especially if they do something drastic like design a new engine for it, or build the platform such that it's got a longitudinal engine layout possibility. It wouldn't surprise me if the Cajun was only slightly cheaper than the Cayenne, given that the base Cayenne MSRP's for 48k, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see the Cajun be $42k - X3 starts at 39k, and Evoque at 44k. The Cajun S model it wouldn't surprise me to be in the high 50s, the Cayenne S starts at 65k.
I think one of the biggest things is going to be the forthcoming Q5S (and possibly RS). BMW has the X3M coming with ~440hp, It's unlikely the Q5S will be less than 350hp. So the Cajun will need to have a model that trumps the X3M, but the more sedate "S" model will instantly be compared to (and possibly be damn near the same as) the Q5S.
Anyways, I think it's a fantastic idea, and I can't wait for them to release more information about it. Here's hoping for a Cajun GTS with the Cayenne V8
