the R8 V10 is going to command huge premiums, for something you could buy at your local Lambo store for a deep discount.

I don't see the R8 as a direct competitor - the 458 is 3100 lbs w/ a 9K power peak. The only new car I can think of that would compete directly (and is sub-200K) is the Gallardo LP550-2, and it's not out yet either.
Did it say the price? I had read previously the California was positioned so as to be entry-level and the 430 successor was going upmarket. That might put the coupe in the 240-250 range. It better be freakin awesome in this economy...
