Is this something to drink now or cellar for later?
Torbreck-Run Rig- several good vintages
D"Arenburg The Dead Arm Shiraz 2001-
kiliakanoon Oracle-2001-2002 less money for a better bottle
Penfolds Grange-more like 200-overated but a status name
Most of these Aussies you can drink now with a couple hours of decanting
Pride 2001 cab
Foley Claret
Anything from Swithback ridge
Big time name recognition and you may be able to find these if you are lucky.
You will get screwed buying a Bordeaux or a Burgandy unless you know your stuff. Most of the good ones are above your price range.
Better idea
Ask around at you local retailer and pick out 3 small batch calif cabs in the 100 dollar range and enjoy.
Instead of the usual suspects....sledgehammer Cabs....how about subtle class like a DRC Burgundy???....La Tache`...Richebourg....dare I say Romanee` Conti...though $300 for that would be tough to find.

was not referring to your suggestion directly...was merely pointing out to the OP that perhaps he may want to look at something diff. instead of the usual suspects....I understand that Insignia...is a meritage.
