One better and cheaper tire option for GT3 - Bridgestone Potenza RE-11?

Thanks for the heads up... I can't say I was impressed with their tires for the 997TT but it's good to know we have a few more winter choices for our 3/RS'... I'm still going to stick to the Cups though. I'll prolly try something like this for the winter for the rain

RE-11 is one of the tires I'm considering when the R888 street tires wear out. Like you say, the RE-11 is much cheaper than almost anything out there.

I recently put on the Bridgestone RE-11's on my wife's Cayman S that she tracks on occassion. I must admit that even though I had never been of fan of Bridgestone before, these tires really performed well.
They took a while to come up to temperature, but once they did they were very sticky. I found them to be responsive and predictable. When they slipped, it was very progressive and controllable. They didn't seem to wear away very quickly, like I've seen the Cups do. Then again, these aren't true R compound tires either. That being said, these are by far the best tire we've had on that car so far.
Are they better than Cups? I don't think so. Are they comparable to my R888's.....probably. I can't say for sure however, because I tried the Bridgestone's RE-11's on a Cayman S and have run the Toyo's on my GT3.

I've got them on my e92M at the moment and I think that they're far better than the PS2s in terms of overall grip. However, there is no way that they are any better than the stock Cups that come on the GT3 when it comes to track work.

I just had these mounted on my M3 last week, good grip and quiet ride so far.

Thread revival: I am thinking of putting these on my 600 rwhp M3....she is driven 3 times a week (semi DD...tracked maybe once every 2 years) and gets caught in the rain....are these tires OK in the wet, or are they death like true track tires/R comps??

We have daily driven our RE-11, even in the rain, in our Cayman S. They perform just fine in the wet...much better than Cups. I don't think you'll have any problems at all on your 600rwhp M3. It should hook up quite nicely for you!

Yes, most reviews rank them w/ the Bridgestones.

Dan, I thought that the R888 was an R Comp, comparable to the MPSC in the dry, but much better in the wet. Is this not the case? I was thinking of having a set of these for wet track days, but if they aren't that good, what else should I be considering?

I can see where I could have given a misimpression in the way my posts were stated. To clarify,
I've gone through several sets of Cups as well as R888's. For dry performance, when fresh, I think the Cups are the best. I think the R888's are pretty close in the dry, and better in the wet, as you stated. Due to that, plus the lower price and longer durability, as well as the less tendency for them to "drop off" when overly hot or oily like the Cups, make the R888 the best choice for me.
The RE-11's are probably 85-90% of what the Toyo's are, all factors considered. That's not bad when you consider that these are NOT consider R compounds like the R888's and the Cups.
I think you using the R888's on wet days would be a great idea. They would also serve as a good back up set on dry days in case you ever cook your dry weather tires during the course of a track day or weekend.
Dan
