I really dont see the point in the new GT3 and GT3RS... this would definitely be money better spent rather than getting hit with depreciation and forking over a ton more money for some flared front arches, slightly fatter rubber and less engine capacity than kermit.... hmmm now if only I had a money tree growing in my back yard...
Aw... thanks Harold

Buy the used 2007, drive it til the warranty runs out...then ship it to Alex with 30K miles for more HP
The best part about the 2007 is it is silver......silver cars are the fastest
Heh good plan indeed and yes silver does look sweet on these eh Actually I like the silver 07 better than the silver on the 2010 that we have

Now you are talking!! You can buy the 07, drive it for another 30K miles, take it to SW for the 3.9 and be $20K ahead. It only took me one day of driving Kermit after the 3.9 conversion to forget about buying a new GT3/RS!! To really appreciate this conversion you must drive or ride in one. Trust me on this!! I'll tell you more in a week or so once I have mine home. And yes, you are correct; silver Porsches are always the fastest!!
One of the engine's (with the higher miles- who could that be? is getting more of a work-over... In the connecting rod department we do feel it necessary to get new rod bearings and bolts.
Here's you can see a comparison between the pankl GT3 rod and a Twin Turbo one (yes I know it's a little bent lol!):
The Titanium GT3 ones are obviously lighter but by how much you ask?
Certainly helps the GT3 rev quicker

So after 37.5K on this motor you can see that there is indeed some decent wear on the rod bearings, which we're replacing.
All well and good but never mind the work to do that but because we're dealing with one-time use stretch bolts you need 12X new ones:
Take a long hard look at this $58 dollar bolt:P At least the bearings are only $19 a piece....

There's a few fun tools here including the factory timing blocks that you can't really see... It's a two person job really with some MEGA wrenches
On goes all the top side "faff" including the wiring harnesses, intake manifold etc...
One other change we're making is removing the gt3 pulley in place of the RS one (also used on new 2010 997GT3s mind you) as we're getting a much more rev-happy engine here...
Original one comes off:
On goes the RS one...
In reference to the earlier post about the factory rear main seal and the leaking you get... this is a picture of how it's supposed to look- no leaks with the 996gt3 one.

Been busy for a few days so here's a few more updates and for the silver car
Here's those magic steel liners that help make the bigger 3.9L bore possible
Those trick head studs:
The rods along with new bearings and new rod bolts:
And installed:
All in...
Gasket...
More..
Some cam timing (two person job along with some factory tools and then some)
Most of it assembled...
Ready to go back in the car...
Back in the car...
The "stereo"
Then looking to the other lift we have a pair of other 3.9L's

But the silver one was not yet done... Slight smell of coolant in the front and with 37.5K of unprotected mileage the front radiator was a little worse for wear...
Off came the bumper...
With some cleaning look at some of the stuff she'd collected:
Here's the old one vs' the new one... Not a pretty sight
With the new radiator in place we added some protection with the Cargraphic screens:
And now the silver one is ready for some action again.... but before you know it in comes another whitey:P

WOW Alex. Thanks for sharing the detail of the engine build with us. This is like playboy channel except we are seeing Porsche bunny naked ... can I say that on the forum? lol
Those are some man size wrench - I will not be doing this as a DIY project
