Hey Medici, for folks with a GT3 we _absolutely_ install the GT3RS clutch kit and flywheel along with the motor upgrade- it's part of the kit for those cars because the car responds/revs so much faster. We also install the RS pulley. Drawbacks? A bit of transmission noise/sizzle and otherwise.. nothing
I have had the LWFW installed on my GT3, along with the Sharkwerks by-pass for over 20K miles. As I have said many times before, "the combo is the best mod for any Porsche ever" I may be changing my mind on this soon as next month I'm having the SW 3.9 kit installed!!!

Great work!
So the seat of the pants feeling is that it is a quick as a 600hp modded turbo. Would that be close to 997 GT2 performance?
I am seriously considering the upgrade instead of a new GT3RS and I have some questions:
T am wondering if the fact that I usually drive at high altitude, 7000 ft and 91 fuel is only premium fuel available, would the higher compression and elevation pose a problem?
Should I expect a shorter time to rebuild given the higher compression and power over the stock 3.6?
I the 3.9 engine able to rev to 8800 rpm due to the modifications or is the stock engine able to do it but Porsche just keeps it a 8400 for durability purposes?

I only wish I could get to hear it for more than a few seconds before you race away into the distance of those curvy roads that we can't keep up with you on!

Having driven a good few of the cars you talk about I would say it would be about right to say that- yes it would likely trap in the mid 125 range or so which is about 550-600hp for a 996TT.... I'd say close to a GT2 as well.
In terms of the elevation with the tools at our disposal (and we'll show this in a video) we would make some changes to your tune but it wouldn't be a problem either:P It's very customizable (which is nice).
The 8400rpm limit is perfect for the set up that Porsche uses in terms of the cams etc... Ours were profiled for 8800 and because we kept making power it was worth going in there. The stock set up just looses power if you go past 8400.

Correct:P We lightened things in a few key areas along with increasing displacement at the same time:P We learned a lot from a good few years of building 996TT motors and over-compensating for strength Stock crank is used- with "perhaps" some minor modifications

I bought my car from Steve over a year ago. Have done considerable mods to it since. He is a friend of mine and a classic car buff. Really great guy.
Hey Laguna_Dude, ah that was him alright! Great guy I think he had done a few mods already so your car must be pretty nicely done

Let me be the first to tell you the ZKERMIT is a beast! I encountered Sharkey on my way back from Concourso Italiano 1am in the morning! I was in my Lamborghini Superleggera and Sharkey in his new 3.9 GT3RS. We had a few good runs on the highway for sure. I would say overall that the RS is probably just as fast or maybe slighty faster then the Lambo.
Hopefully Alex will chime in more and maybe we can get a video!

Hehe, "just as fast or maybe slightly faster" (than a Superleggera)!! Alex, just think what would happen on "you know what road"!!

LOL thanks and the cash4clunker:P It really does go and if you're around etc... swing by and we'll try it out You know your car really well so you should be able to tell...
Thanks mikymu.... Don't get me wrong we love forced induction but you're right that would be such a step backwards for this car/set up. We absolutely adore the character of this highly-strung and fast-responding motor. All we wanted to do was dial up the things we liked about it in the first place. The revs, check, the light weight components, check... the responsiveness, even better better. It feels like a GT3 motor we all know and love but one that's had a too much of the cream and the clear you know? Let me tell you U-turns are bit trickier or should I say more "fun" now...
If anyone can do a DIY that's you....
We're still running factory cats, headers and intake system. I have to say it says a lot for the factory headers, cats and even the intake that we got what we did with those stock components. That's also a very good sign for smog too. I can't imagine why it wouldn't pass SMOG (haven't done that yet) because due to the light-load drivability tuning that was done we got even better gas mileage on the way home vs stock (25.4mph on the freeway vs 24.8mpg on the way there).
Thanks for the reply Alex. your EVOMS GT3 3.9L Spec Motor Kit's power gain and efficiency went beyond expectation as usual I would love to get it for my RS one of these days. Will start saving and cut back on bubble tea James' RS sound like a freaking beast with your 3.9 system!
Let me know what your new 1/4 mile trap speed is if you get to test it out. I am sure it will pass smog without difficulty
