The actual cost to the dealer is $1K at most, unless they find problems, then they pass those additional costs to you. If it is an '08 car, why do it?

I have a warranty through 2012, but is the cost of the CPO a better value than purchasing an extended warranty at the end of the 4 years? Will it help resale?

Thanks

I can't say about the resale for the car but I would rather have a CPO porsche
than buy an extended warranty. reason is i am not a big fan of extended warranties

I think it would help resale, but its up to you. If you plan to keep it 5 years, then it would be worth it since you can offer the buyer an additional year of warranty and will set your car apart in the market if you choose to sell it at that time. At a minimum it will steer people to your car if you don't get at least some of the $$$ back for the warranty anyway.

The CPO is the best warranty to have since it is essentially the same as a factory warranty. My dealer offered to CPO my car if I sold it which is big selling plus. I never sold the car but I was quoted around $2,000 provided there were no issues or items that must be addressed to CPO the car. A CPO warranty extends the warranty to 6 years from the date the car went into service or 100,000 miles which ever happens first. So the CPO extension should run two years beyond the expiration of the original factory warranty and it is worth the cost. There have been a high occurence of RMS leaks on GT3's, the repair is costly because the motor has to be removed to change the seal. You should get the dealer to print out the service history for the car you are considering. Good luck with purchase.

I heard Porsche isn't warranting the RMS leak...

What about the extended warranty versus the CPO? I had a dealer in the LA area who was going to CPO the car (Seller's Purchase Dealer) for 3K but when he couldn't beat my CU financing he wanted to charge me $6500.00, so I passed.

If anyone know a so cal dealer who will CPO a car for reasonable $$$ PM me.

It's looks like you live near Niello in Rocklin, if you do maybe they would help you out. The service manager is Jim Weber he is a nice guy, you should give him a call. My dealer is in the Bay area. I don't have any first hand experience with extended warrantys but I have heard some horror stories. Did you buy the car or are you still working out the details.

Just have to do the money thing. I was hoping to do the transaction through a dealer and get a CPO as well. Seller will work with me on a CPO (I'm willing to pay the $3K to a dealer to get it done).

I can check with my dealer in Fremont, they were willing to do it for me maybe they will help you out. If they say yes, I'll send you a PM with contact information. I bought a few cars from them, that's why they were willing to help me out, but it's worth a call.
