thats just what its costs for 2 days at the holiday inn and food at chili's
Just pulling your legs mobonic but chili and track may not go together well
I am lucky in a way that I can just drive to Thunderhill, infinion or Laguna on the same day of my track event and food .... well, mostly burger king for lunch. I don't like to pay $10 at the track for a handful of greasy fries lol

Guy's thanks for all the feedback. I already track my 996 so I am aware of the incidentals and how quickly they add up. I was mostly interested in the cost of the consumables. I have been going back and forth between a GT3 and a Exige 255 Cup car. I have always loved the GT3 and there is definitely one in my future. As I just recently caught the track bug I am just not sure if I should jump up to the GT3 or buy something more modest and cheaper to run for the next year or two. If I go the way of the Lotus I will keep my Porsche. If I get a 2010 GT3 it will have to go.

This is what each 2 day event roughly costs for me: (most events are 200-400 miles away from me)
Track Entry Fee: $300
Tune Up: $150
Gas to Event: $150
Hotel: $250
Food: $200
Track Gas: $150
Misc. $100
Tires $400 ($1200 if you use a fresh pair every weekend)
So every track weekend, out of pocket is around: $1,700
If you want to use fresh rubber each weekend: $2,500
So.... I hope you guys were saying $2,500 per weekend and not $2,500 for 15 track days...
if so I want to track where you track.
Obviously this is based on a "weekend" and not for the whole year.. It that were the case everyone would be at the track..

I've been tracking my 997TT for the last two years, 20 track days a year, and for next year Im looking to get a dedicated track car, in this case an E46 M3.
I know its heavy by comparison to a GT3 but I want to learn to go faster in a car that wont spin its tail so unexpectedly, and the M3 is perfect for that.
Doing the math it makes the most sense, all wearable items cost less, tires, pads, rotors, and any mods.
On top of that if you have any off-road excursion and you end up taking some armco with you the cost of repairs on a 997 GT or TT would quickly add up to the entire cost of an E46 track car.
The other factor that annoyed me was using the TT as a daily driver as well, it always became a frantic rush to get the car ready for the next track day because my closest trusted mechanic is 50 miles from my house and its always a hassle to get the car there and back and not cutting out of work early every weekend during the summer.
Not to mention in an E46 I can actually take a spare set of tires+rims with me. Havent quite got to trailering, I think Im not ready for that for at least another couple of years. Always sitting at work till the last minute on Friday and then driving out.
I know the temptation is there to stick with the 997 because it looks amazing, the power, and everything else, but I rather not be worrying about my daily driver on the track and have something that I wont cry about if I bend it up (not that Im planning to, but anything can happen). Plus its a better platform to learn on, less power, more predictable, and it's safer to push closer to the edge.
Anyway long story short I think if you are serious about tracking at some point you need to get a dedicated track thats not your DD and that will help you to learn, for me that car is the M3, even though I love my 997TT.

Get a used Cayman S for about $30K. It has the engine in the right place, and its a real sports car with the best handeling of all Porsches.. And its not a family car. You can strip the Cayman and add a roll cage, and actually keep its value. The Spec Cayman Race Series is just starting up, so people will be looking for race prepped Caymans... Or you can start racing it yourself!
How about insurance? Is everyone self-insuring? Last I looked, track insurance would cost me $700-1000 per event. Previously, my regular auto insurance covered DEs. No more.
