I purchased a '05 Gallardo recently (wohoo!) and my father is thinking about purchasing a 07 or 08 GT3. He's thinking about using it more as a daily driver, maybe 5-7k miles yearly. What is he looking at for yearly maintenance costs? Estimated numbers would be appreciated.

Daily driver with 5-7k miles? How many days are that in a year?

For that mileage I wouldn't be worried about maintenance costs. GT3 needs servicing every 12.000miles or once every 2 years I think.

 

So that would be around how much? For example, how much are tires, how long do they generally last? How often does the clutch need to be replaced? How much is the servicing at 12k miles?

If he can afford the car, he can afford the maintenance. (I always hated that answer).

Tires will last 12,000 miles depending on driving style - maybe longer without track time. Porsche service varies from one place to the next. I would call your dealer or local shop and ask them about the 2 year and 4 year service they do. All the other stuff like brakes and tires will depend on how your dad drives the car.

 

If you know how the drive, you won't have to replace the clutch.

Oil change 2x per year (couple hundred $ each time, if you don't do it yourself).
Tires.

If you track, lots more.

Totally different story - but interesting....A young man told me he was going to head south to pick up an M5 really cheap and that it would be so awesome to have one in his mid 20's. I asked him if he had any idea how much brakes would cost when they go - he said no. He called BMW, found out it would be $1000-$2000 a corner (here in Canada) and cancelled the whole plan.

A street driven Cpo'd car that is driven 5-7k miles annually, should only need tires and oil changes. Tires will be 1100 -2500 depending on which brand. Oil changes 200-250. Brakes should be fine for 30k miles or more
Gas - will be your biggest cost and factor in $$ for whatever insurance rate you have.

If this car is a track car - it will cost more

compared to the service costs on a Gallardo, GT3 service is so cheap you pay the bill with a smile because you feel like you've gotten one over on them!!! Porsche service is really inexpensive.

 

Not in Canada they're not - or I"d be getting my free set of fronts for my 335.
