Has any one here used and been happy with Auto Owners Insurance Company? Just curious as my home owner's insurance is through them as well and I'm trying to decide whether to keep the home owner's in tact.
I can't suggest them for their auto coverage (though I never had a claim to really basis this on). Here's the situation which has me scratching my head..
I received a call from my local insurance agent today saying that Auto-Owners has decided not to re-new my policy. Considering I haven't been in any accidents, never filed a claim, and having not received any moving violation in over a year - I naturally asked my insurance agent why the non renewal.
I was told it was due to a ticket over 1 year ago which was an over 25 MPH over ticket. Which it was.. I was doing 91 in a 65MPH zone.. yep, 26 MPH over. I informed the agent that I had even renewed my insurance since that ticket (about 4 months after the ticket) and why would they not cancel it then. He had no real answer to that. Oh, and on that ticket I had a plea deal to pay the ticket and no points would be assessed.
So, I have 0 points on my driving record, no accidents of any kind, no claims, and my credit is still in their highest tier. My speeding ticket was 1 MPH over to get me as a "major speed", which I received in 2-08 --> renewed insurance in 5-08--> 3-26-09 I'm told its being non renewed 5-09.
I guess this doesn't make much sense to me, but oh well. I just wanted to pass this experience along that I've had with Auto-Owners to the rest of you who use them or are looking for companies.

You might get a better rate if you have your home and auto insurance through the same company.
Wonder if the fact that you got cancelled will affect future rates?
I doubt other companies will even be able to tell that I didn't get renewed, so I doubt they'll throw that into their equation for determining my premium. Each company has their own fun ways to raise premiums..
I agree, I'm sure a mutli-policy will end up saving me money. I didn't ask, but I'm sure my home owner's will jump up in price on me if I only have that policy with them.
Ryan79,
I own an independent insurance agency in Toledo. I have Auto-Owners, along with 6 other carriers (Motorist Mutual, Westfield, Celina, etc). Auto-Owners is one of the few carriers that places a high emphasis on the actual amount over on the speed. Most other carriers just look at the fact that you got a speed & not the amount over unless there are additional tickets attached or it's a very high point. Auto-Owners looks at this speed as "excessive" and charges as a major violation. I would be happy to give you a quote or answer any questions.

Thanks for that info, sheds some light on things for me. Though I still don't understand it being non-renewed 15 months after the speeding violation.. guess they are really on top of things as far as who they choose to insure
Will keep your agency in mind as I'm looking my options over. Thanks again for the info.
