Clueless Lamborghini Salesman

I went to Fox Valley Motorcars Lamborghini Chicago dealership a couple days ago, to check out the Gallardo's and whatnot

I was introduced to their "gallardo specialist," and while he may have known about Gallardo's... he did not know about cars, actually he didn't know much about the gallardo either

1.

He started off asking what transmission i was most interested in, and i said either e-gear of a standard MT, i said im somewhat familiar with the concept of e-gear because i had an M3 with SMG... he states, that they are not the same thing at all, because e-gear uses a clutch, i said SMG uses a clutch too, and he said, well yea, it does, but they are totally different, i dont care what M car you are driving, M3, M5, M6, they are nothing more then an automatic... i corrected him again, where he refused to believe i was right, brushed off my correction and went away thinking e-gear is reserved ONLY for lambo...

At this point, i knew arguing was useless and i would not longer try to correct him - but then next thing was great

2.

He said the lambo e-gear transmission is much better and more sophisticated then Ferrari's F1 (360 Modena) because the transmission is driven by a chain... where as the Ferrari transmission is driven by a belt... Hmm... pretty sure he was talking about the timing belts...

3.

As we were talking in the back a red Diablo SV pulled out... he said SV stands for SuperVeloce, which means super light... - how does this guy work for a lambo dealership? and how can he considered a "specialist" maybe special is the correct word

4.

Lastly, i said im looking in the range of 90k for an 04 - he said an 04 for 90k is gonna have a lot of miles and a lot of stories... Not something i wanna hear for a (no longer) potential dealership saleman

5.

Just thought of another - he had a model of a Reventon on his desk which i commented on, he said the price was 1.5M, i said similiar to the Buggati Veyron he let out a sigh of disgust and said he would much rather have the Lambo, the Buggati is a peice of crap, it's nothing more then a modded Ford...

Alright... i got nothing more to say after that last one...

Service advisors are even more clueless, I took my car in for a bad 02 sensor and when the guy saw the check engine light and popped the hood. He said yep it looks like the nitrous blew your engine.....

WTF! Why are most car salesmen so ignorant???
I got a story about a "corvette Specialist." My friend was buying a new Z06 last year and the "specialist" was telling us all the facts about it.
- 0-60 in 5.9s
-top speed 174 (when i mentioned it was more than that, he said, "oh, That is around a 1/4 mile track.") WTF?????
and that's only a small part of all the bs that he was telling me.

I have had this experience so many times it's unreal. I was shopping for a range rover sport SS outside of Philadelphia. I told the salesman that I had narrowed the colors to two possibilities and asked that he let me know when I could see one of them in person. No phone call and then when I called back on a Friday I was told that it was his day off and that I could only speak to him. I said that I would probably call another dealer and get the process going today. I got a phone call from him, from his home more than a little miffed at me and he stated that he was "here for me" and that I would hear from him the following Monday on availability and timing. No call again. I call back and he tells me what I want is probably not going to be available and Land Rover is done producing cars for the year and probably won't be making a supercharged car next year. He did have a regular RR Sport the way I wanted that I could take delivery of right now. He then went on to tell me that it had 380 HP just like the last RRSC and that I would hardly know the difference. I have to thank him though. Two weeks later I was at my BMW dealership and ordered an X6M which is twice the car.

I have never bought a car off of a salesman that knew more about it than myself either. And have had stories similar to this one many times. If they don't know the facts about the cars they are selling they should at least admit it. Not make up some BS stories to try and impress a customer. Thankfully my current guy I use for all my cars admits when he does not know something and goes and does his homework so he can come back and give me useful info.

That dealership amazes me, I went in to talk to the head sales guy, I told him I was looking for an09-10 LP640 roadster, well he showed me what he had and also told me what he had coming in, I told him I was interested in what he had coming in, I also told him I was a "CASH" buyer, ready to buy a roadster. He told me he would call em in the beginning of the next week, I never even got a return call, this dealership must have a lot of $$$$ to not return calls on a 350-380$$ purchase??? They really need to pay attention to what is going on!!! Well, it worked out in the end, I ended up buying from The Auto Gallery in Ca, amazing car at a better price than I could find local!!

If you rely on a car salesman for your information you will get exactly what you deserve 95% of the time... Do your own research here and on forums alike and even then take information from people that have proven themselves.

I have come across the same incompetence in dealerships before. The last one at a Porsche dealership 10 years ago! To restore faith in the sales staff, I can say that I have been dealing with sales reps at both Ferrari and Lamborghini in Dallas and they are extremely competent and knowledgeable!

A Panamera Turbo is as fast to 60 as a 997.1 Turbo

Back on the topic...
I was just at some used car mall in HK, I was checking this used Gallardo out and the sales approached me trying to sell this riced out EVO rather then the Gallardo...

1) He told me that the EVO8 RS he had on the floor is much faster then the Gallardo
2) The EVO is tuned by the owner of JUN from Japan himself
3) Its close to 600HP (i check that its still running stock turbo)
4) swapped from a 6MT to a 5MT (yea right, RS only came with 5MT)
5) its so heavily modded, its still running on stock rims/tires
6) he claims the car could do 0-60 in 8.1s and after I made fun of that statement saying a Toyota Echo is probably faster, he said it should be 0.81s to 60mph....

i just said to him.... no way... this car is faster then a rocket! he actually replied yea, its really fast like a rocket!

at that point i just can't stop laughing out loud and left....

Like earlier said. They are used to non-enthusiasts. Who have no idea of the wealth of information on the internet and whatnot. Their typical customer is someone who just sees Lambo and wants one. No idea what they are getting into, they just take the word of the salesman. Being a salesman (not in Cars), I get this all the time. Although being a serious enthusiast, reading as much as I possibly can about everything there is to know about the products I sell, I often find myself trying not to laugh at the bull**** customers feed me.

It is a two way street. The worst is a customer buying something with a girlfriend, man some of that is . The bragging about this and that, and showing his 'knowledge' which is 95% bull**** makes for some hilarity.
