Lamborghini... quo vadis?

It is no secret that a successor model is on its way: no factory visits
from May 7 to the end of 2010, due to "restructuring works" [1], plus
a bunch of scheduled briefings throughout the next couple of months.

Yep, the Murcielago is old, has seen its LP midlife kicker, plus several
special editions, culminating in the recent LP 670-4 SV.

Yep, the Gallardo is old, has seen initial improvements as well as a LP
midlife kicker, plus several special editions, culminating in the recent
LP 550-2 and LP 570-4 SL. In addition, Audi added the R8 and took it
all the way to the V10, Spyder, GT, and LMS models.

Why does this leave me with the feeling that the R8 will see a midlife
kicker or successor, but the Gallardo won't? Is Lamborghini's future all
about consolidation into a single model, with Murcielago-like volumes
and prices, while leaving the "low end" to Audi's R8? Is such a model
actually sustainable for them in terms of revenue and profit?

Just wondering... Lamborghini... quo vadis? :-)
