UGR not at the Texas Mile........
Does anyone know why UGR was not at the Texas mile this past weekend with any of their cars?
My guess is after last years crash it really isn't worth risking anybody's life. Any tuner(Heffner, UGR, LMR, Boost Logic, etc) can throw money at a car to make 2000hp but these cars were not designed to go this fast. These cars(not just UGR but all the tuners) have no wind tunnel testing or any test on drag coefficient at these speeds.
I would like to see this event continue but in a safe manner. I believe the Texas Mile crew has to set stricter guidelines for all cars entering the event. It doesn't take a genius to figure out drag radials are not meant to be driven at 200+mph for an extended period of time. Some of these cars making 200+mph passes would be booted from your local drag strip for making a mid 11 second pass. How does that make sense?
Hate to get off track just felt like this issue needed be discussed. I would hope things change before someone is injured or even killed.

3 reasons
1). The current location does not have adequate stopping for the speeds the UR cars run (new location is said to be better for this). It's possible to stop w/in the limited shutdown, but it's not ideal.
2). UR has always gone simply to support the customers who have chosen to compete. With no customers going this time, no need to go
3). Although a few cars there held some promise, the record didn't need to be defended.

Or maybe that they need to go back to the shop to turn wrenches so that the customers they have accepted money from to build their vehicles won't get pissed that they have been out of the shop for 2 weeks.

They turn cars around in about 6 weeks with a motor and a tranny build.

Goliad: 8,000' x 150' http://www.airnav.com/airport/7T3
Chase: 8,000 x 200' http://www.airnav.com/airport/1XA2
It does look like the facility is going to be much nicer and closer to town though...
Hopefully they will get the Wilmington Mile event going. That is 10,700' x 150' and a little closer for you guys. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KILN
Still in the works but register if anyone is intersted: http://www.wilmingtonmile.com/
Have any of the UGR guys thought about Loring? It's 12,100' x 300' and they do 1.5-mile races (also time the 1-mile for comparison). http://www.airnav.com/airport/ME16
This goes on during the summer for anyone interested: http://lta-lsr.com/default.aspx
It's a nice 1.5-mile race with a FULL 1-mile shut down...
I hope so, I think everyone enjoys watching them run!

Unless the over/under-runs are extended, the new location is going to be similar length to Goliad...

there is a diagram on another forum of the new runway and it shows AFTER the 8000 feet an additional 1000 feet of runoff. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's paved which give 1000 extra feet compared to Goliad.
ok, found it. It's paved. Zoom in the google map

zoom in on this one too

Chase is a combination of asphalt/concrete same with Loring...
Goliad had the additional 1,000' over/under runs also just not sure if Chase is in addition yet. Hopefully they'll have that info soon. My only concern with the older Navy field is possible cable/barriers at the end of the runways. You can see in the aerial shots the cut outs for them (more than likely removed but still showing anchor points). Hopefully it is a smooth and easy transition if you need the extra room....

You do NOT want to go on the Goliad runoff, its mainly dirt. No one wanted to use the runoff at Goliad. The Chase runoff looks to be much more user friendly.

Currently, I run a BUSA at the Mile.
The problem at Goliad is that they run the starting line aprox 1,000' from the beginning of the runway so almost 1,000' is wasted (and 1,000' unusable) which cuts into that 8,000'...
To give you an idea. There is aprox 1,000' behind where the cars are even lining up. If you have a look in Bills run, the runway ends at aprox the 1:05 mark so not much room you are correct (not even talking about the dirt road, technically that's extra)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BT2JjzHa-c
At Chase, lets hope the cables/barriers don't affect it where the runway markings end.
Looking forward to more info on the new location. Wish they could find a 10k'+ runway like Wilmington or Loring, locally...
Wilmington would be 1-mile accel and 1-mile for braking. Loring is 1.5-mile accel with 1-mile breaking or 1-mile accel with 1.5 for breaking...
