wow I would have thought run a blade to cut the film while on the car would cut into the paint... I would be nervous doing that job

 

Same here, seems risky.

 

When it is done properly you do not cut through the film. All that has to be cut is the top coat and then the film will tear. So not using the tip of the blade... and letting the long part of the blade glide across the film allows it to barely cut the top coat. It is definitely an art that takes years to get down.
