All you gun owners

Looking at picking up another handgun. Curious as to what everybody's favorites are. I'm going to guess eight desert eagles pop up. Personally, I like this little guy:

DE isn't nearly what it's cracked up to be. It's all Hollywood hype.

I guess the real question would be what you are looking to use the gun for. If it's for daily carry, home defense or to go to the range. How much you plan on shooting (cost of ammo) and which one feels good to you. Like a nice car, a gun has to fit your needs.

I've professionally carried a Sig Sauer P226, Glock 17 & 19 and found all of them to be nice in their own right.

For me, I carry a Glock 17, though I am thinking about switching up to a G26 and have a Kimber Tactical Custom II for the house.

Kimber CT2

The Glock is a 9mm, which is nice since I go shoot quite a bit and the ammo is a lot cheaper than the .45cal I have to buy for my Kimber.

If I had to recommend a highly versatile gun for pretty much any situation you may encounter, it would be a Glock 19. Dirt cheap, reliable and easy to use.

Forget about owning a can in CA. You can find the pistol at pretty much any decent gun-store.

Honestly, owning a gun in California is one of the hardest things, especially in LA. Concealed weapon permit? Get in line, it's ridiculously hard to get one in the Los Angeles area much less Southern California.

Luckily I know people I can get a permit in a heartbeat, but really, your just ASKING for trouble. There are also restricted areas you can't carry, and you might not even know until it's a little too late.

Oh, and I don't reccomend a silencer in California

ARTICLE 2. UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF FIREARM SILENCERS

12520. Any person, firm, or corporation who within this state possesses a silencer is guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison or by a fine not to exceed ten thousand dollars ($10,000) or by both.

You can own a gun in CA just as easy as anywhere else in the US. You have the mandatory 240 hour wait and mag limitations, but that's about it. None of that changes by county either.

This is true. LA county's Sheriff is known to not be real big on issuing CCW's. If you've got a good cause, have a good case to present and are lucky, you will however get one as a private citizen.

Really? Why would you be asking for trouble and how does you knowing people effect the outcome of your CCW application? I'm quite interested since I am involved in protective security, both private in the US and federal outside of the continental US. Even with my credentials and cause, I am working on refining my letter for the county I live in, though I currently hold a CCW from a few other states.

If you don't know where you can and cannot carry, you shouldn't own a gun yet. There's a good book called "How to own a gun and stay out of jail" that specifically deals with all the laws you must observe and follow to not get in trouble.

There's a great resource for those CA residents interested in concealed carry:

CA CCW

People on there are quite helpful too.

+1 for Sig 226. had it for 10 years. Also, the new Sig 229 is nice too..

...on the other hand I have an AR-15...it fires very fast if you know what I mean..

I don't own a gun, nor do I plan to buy one.
When I say "know people", I mean my uncle golfs with Sheriff Lee Baca, many people on this forum can confirm that. He told me if I ever wanted a CWP all I had to do is ask. Just a throw in from what he told me himself.

By asking for trouble I mean this. I have many relatives that own a CWP, and when they go to events like Amuesment parks and such, and they get searched, if you don't have a badge they put you in handcuffs ( most of the time if theres a police officers present, and if not they CALL the police which makes it worse because you have to wait for them to show up ) and THEN ask you for your permit. Seen it happen in front of my eyes. Trouble wasn't the correct word, let's use hassle.

It's always good to see CCW's being issued in a professional manner and in adherence with the Sheriff department's guidelines. Other's have to show a damn good reason to protect themselves (or exercise their 2nd amendment rights, depending on your POV) and he issues them out to his golfing buddy's nephew just like that. **** like that gets under my skin. Nothing personal towards you either, just speaks volumes for Sheriff Baca's professional/moral standards.

I can follow that train of thought, though it is completely asinine. But then again that is a concept that has spawned endless debate for years. I've seen dumber and there's no shortage of examples. Unfortunately.

Petros,

HK416 is not on sale to the public. I can tell you that it's a damn fine piece of machinery. Whereas I used to have to clean my M4 at least once every 500 rounds, I can now go through 2000+ rounds and not have any real intense cleaning to do.

You should sign the petition here if you want one bad enough. Not sure whether it'll change anything, but you can always enlist and with some hope....

http://www.petitiononline.com/HK416/petition.html

Your best bet though would be AR-15's, which depending on the make can range from $500 to well over $3,000. If you're looking for a decent model there are some to be found in the $800 price range. DPMS and LMT make good models for that budget.

High end, like Noveske, will set you back $1500 minimum, starting. Some will argue that no AR-15 should cost that much, but I beg to differ after shooting some of the Noveske rifles and carbines. They are outstanding. Hope that helps!

Dorian, I understand what your feeling. It get's under my skin too when I see people getting things just because of the people they know. I've actually just came to accept it in the past few months that it's a part of life. Is it fair? No, but let me assure you if I was interested in getting one, I would do it the correct way.

I know life isn't fair and I am well aware of various OBN's. I've worked in third world countries where everything is about who you are related to, who knows you etc. That's probably one of the biggest, if not the most important reason why those countries are in the kind of morally devoid, decrepit state without any light at the end of the tunnel.

As for you going about it the right way, my hat's off to you, BB.
