Maserati Quattroporte

I am looking for a fast sedan I have narrowed it down to the Quattroporte and the M5 if I go with the Maserati will I be looking at 3-5 times the cost to maintain it like I have heard from a few people?

Out of warranty, both will cost an arm and a leg.

I owned an '07 Duoselect QP Sport GT and test drove several M5's.

In warranty, the maintenance costs were very minimal. However, BMW does cover normally scheduled maintenance for 4/50K so minimal is still more than 0.

I would never consider owning either car outside of warranty personally. The BMW VANOS or SMG costs outside of warranty would be sky high. So would similar repairs to a QP.

The QP is an exotic and has some pretty hefty costs associated if you need to fix. Oil changes are only required every 10K/12 months and shouldn't run more than $300-$400.

Tires will be expensive on both cars.

Insurance may actually be higher on the V-10 BMW. My insurance on my QP was quite a bit lower than my 997 Turbo.

Again, I stress that warranty will save you lots of $$ over the long-term on these cars and gives you peace of mind.

The BMW is faster and more technologically advanced, but the QP was just more desirable to me.

Hope that helps.

This is very helpful I think if I do go with the m5 I will buy their service plan along with it. Have you ever taken you 997 out in the snow? Although completly different I have been looking into a 997 because of the all wheel drive.

Hold on or SIT DOWN when you need to get brakes and rotors. At the dealership $4200 and if you service outside of the dealership is approx $2400 for pads on all 4 and rotors in the front.

as an example, I paid $750 for brake pads all the way around and rotors in the front for my 2007 mercedes s550 at 64,000 miles.

just something to think about. I have done a ton of research with my buddies that have them. They all say, hold on to your credit card and wallet

rear tires every 8 to 10,000 miles, sticky buttons, leather issues, electrical issues . . . . BUT one of the sexist cars on the road. I want one so bad, But I know what to expect and I am not in the financial position today to throw money around like that as well as waiting on parts from overseas.

these are NOT production cars and they do not make a ton of them and parts are not just sitting and waiting like BMW and Mercedes.

I travel 85 miles round trip per day and if you do the math . . . . . . It is an expensive DD. I still might get one, even with all the crap that goes alone with it. I would only get one with a CPO warranty. Also I hear to wait to get a 09 if you can. The electronics are sim. to the BMW's and Mercedes once you get to 2009

Two totally diffrent cars in my opinion, i'd just think about it more and just see how much you really want to spend.

Both great picks though.

I love both cars but like the others said just be prepared to spend lots of coin to maintain. My preference would be the QP. Tons of M5s running around in SE MI.
