Drove a 650S Spider

Drove a 650S Spider
Last Sunday I was invited to a McLaren Awareness event at my local dealer.
Wow, it this a special car. Drives very exotic, you sit very low. I am 6'2" and I was surprised how well I fit in the car. Getting in take some getting used to but once in you have plenty of room. The controls are just where they should be and outward visibility was remarkably good.
After a lite bite and a walk around, I got to drive the beast with a Team McLaren driver. It was not on the parkway but I did manage a few pulls 20-60 and then to a full stop. Mega fun time, popped the airbrake. .
Brakes are incredible, zero nose dive standing on the brakes and the ride is exceptionally comfortable in normal and in track mode. The hydraulic suspension is definitely one of the top selling points on this beast. Steering is razor sharp and weighted just right.
There is nothing bad I can say about this car other than it costs a mega pretty penny.
Its a great looking, awesome car all around for sure and I want one...............

I am intrigued by McLaren and really want to give them a shot. I was approached just prior to the MP4 release but turned them down. My primary concern is reliability. I am thinking about buying a new car and the 650S seems to fit all my criteria. I don't know why but not really turned on by the general appearance of the MP4 or 650S, I do like the P1. I would love to hear from current McLaren owners about any problems they have encountered the first few thousand miles of ownership. I have no doubts about their performance.

I bought a 12c about 7 months ago and I love it. It's very well built. The engine is absolutely amazing, and it revs to 8500 with its twin turbo. the only issue i have is trying to drive it around town within the speed limit.

I haven't had the opportunity to drive one yet...
Congrats on your 12C mate!

I have had mine for 3k miles in just 6 months. I have had no problems and on the forum mentioned above, most owners have no issues either. Most owners track and drive their cars many more miles than do other types of super cars. I took mine to a track event at Big Willow and there were 6 other Mclarens there.
In the last few years I have had a GT2, Scud and R8 V10. This is the complete package of all I want in a fun car.
The reliability issues is hyped up beyond reality.

I haven't driven a 650S yet but I've driven the 12C. Phenomenal car, just didn't care much for the looks of it. The 650S fixed the styling for the most part, but I'm not able to get a $300k car right now. I got to get up close and personal with the 570S, and that's the one I'm looking to get. But I'll be waiting for the Spider version to come out. It won't be for another 2 years, probably, but at least by then I'll be able to keep my Aston when I jump on a McLaren.
I've heard the reliability issues of the 12C are overhyped as well.
