Went by and took a bunch of pics. 21k miles, pretty immaculate. Supposedly never raced. PM me if you want the dealership info, I have no affiliation of course.

A remnant of an embarrassing saga in Porsche racing history. This car was supposed to be raced in the US in something called the USA Carrera Cup Racing Series. At the time, Porsche was still in trouble with the EPA & DOT after the 959 "racing" expemption (all of the 959's imported to the US had been impounded and shipped back to Germany when our government realized they were all going to wind up on the street), so to get the series going PCNA had a limited production (45, I think) run of USA legal cars similar to the European Carrera RS made. Andial was then contracted to convert these road legal cars to Carrera Cup racing cars for the racing series. The cost of producing racing specification cars in this way was so high that PCNA couldn't find enough teams to buy and race the cars so the series was cancelled by PCNA before it began. Of the 45 cars, 25 had actually been converted, with another 4 partially converted to be used as parts cars. All were returned to Andial and reconverted back to their original street legal specification and then the 45 cars were quietly sold through the regular dealer network. You should be able to tell whether this one was one of the converted ones by looking for the evidence of a roll cage (there will be a couple of tubes in the engine compartment and weld pads visible inside the car). Certainly qualifies as unusual, but whether it is unusual in a good way (ie, more valuable) is an open question.
