OT: guys I need some serious car insurance help!
Is anyone in the business?
Here is my situation, I built a 55 chevy suburban starting at the age of 14. It's finally done and i'm trying to insure it but I can't find ANYONE who will. I've had a couple guys say they could and then when it gets down to it they all end up at the same you have to be 25 bull****. I'm 21 will be 22 in about 2 weeks. I have a perfectly clear record, not a point on it currently. I've tried maybe 10-15 different company's and no one will touch it. I'm even trying to insure it for like half it's value. They all say they can't do classic car/hot rods for someone under 25. What is weird is we didn't have a problem insuring me on our 58 caddy. But it's we have the same situation w/ me on our woody as we are having w/ our suburban.
Can someone please help, i've spent 8 long years on this car and can't even drive it
here is a picture for those interested:

any tips will be appreciated guys!
btw, how are you young kids insuring your 996TT's? Msindi and AMG_ETR specifically.
:d'oh: sorry this should be in the OT section.

My car is in my dads name with me listed as the second driver...
I would suggest doing this as it is probably the only way...
My insurance company is Chubb, and they are GREAT!! They would have even insured me by myself on this car at age 17!!!!(was just way too expensive).
Like I said, put it in your parents name, with you as the secondary driver...if you get pulled over or in an acc. say you just took it our for the day
.
Regards,
Evan
PS-NICE TRUCK...its nice to see other young people so into cars (or trucks in your case
). Looks like you spent a lot of time and energy, I hope you get to drive it!!!

They won't even let me do it that way. We've been all over the place, people tell us if we do it like that it will work, then it doesn't. One guy told us he could do it if the car was registered in my name, we did that, he couldn't do it. I don't want to wait 3 more years to drive this thing, it was suppose to be done when I turned 16

I am a commercial insurance agent. I don't know what all of the circumstances are in this case, but you can PM me if you would like to discuss it further.
You do not have to be listed as a driver. The insurance company only prefers this so they can charge more premium. The insurance policy is for the car, not the driver. If you were to put the vehicle in your father's name, you could then insure the vehicle and you could drive it. Just don't tell the insurance company up front that you will be driving it...in fact, don't even mention your name when buying the policy. If you had an accident in the vehicle, it would be covered, but the insurance company would then either drop coverage all together and you would have to go elsewhere, or they would specifically exclude you as a driver on the policy. If you are specifically excluded from the policy, you are not covered if you have an accident in the vehicle.

You (or your dad or whoever) might want to try Foremost Insurance (www.foremost.com). I have a custom-built motorcycle valued at $40K that was very difficult to place...Foremost insured it without blinking an eye. They do all sorts of specialty, custom stuff.

thanks hossfly, but we've been told specifically on these types of cars that if someone under the age of 25 is driving them it would not be covered.
I'm gonna give formemost a shot. Thanks.
There isn't really anything i'm leaving out, other then that it's a custom car. That is where the insurance company's seem to be having a problem.

I guess its different where you live or because its a custtom car...
Mine is in my name and I've had 3 other 996s first of which when I was 18 and they were all insured with no problem...Only problem here in MA is you cant own a car and hence register or insure it if you are under 18!! As a result, when my brother got his C5 when he was 17 a few years back we had to put that car in my name and add him as a driver...
Hop ethis helps.
P.S. the MA insurance system is retarded and is a scam1!!

Insurance in general is a scam, I'm 21 and am totally insured on my 97' TT. It costs me $18,500 a year CND to insure the damn thing, thats the reason I have found a friend of my dads who wants to buy it off me, thank god.. just in time for winter. Insurance companies were happy to insure me because they knew how damn expensive it would be for me.
My hummer h1 on the other hand is $4100CND a year, which doesnt make sence to me considering it a class 3 vehicle weighing almost 7000lbs and could total a car easily.
Keep looking around, i'd be interested in what they charge you.. have you had it valued?
