motorcycle insurance?

I've gotten 2 quotes for a 94 CBR 600 F2 that are above $1100. No comprehensive, and basic limited liability. Both insurance companies have the understanding that I will have completed a MSF class and have a motorcycle license.

I keep reading people paying $200-500 a year for similiar coverage.

One was progressive the other was my auto insurance mercury (who were using a 3rd party)

I had a quote for my 03 GSXR 750 full coverage for about 1200 a year. I just got liability and I think it was around $350.

It is too much for full coverage unless you buy the bike new. On a bike that old that is not worth much money I would just do liability, shouldn't be more than 300 with your age and marital status.

blastr17 will become famous soon enough
Try foremost, they are part of farmers and are pretty good with bike rates here in NY.

Oh wow, that is a lot! I pay $600/year full coverage for my 2005 Ducati Monster through Progressive. But it is listed as a standard as opposed to a sport bike.

I JUST got my license. 24 years old/ 2 points on my record both speeding. FULL COVERAGE for 780 a year.. 2007 SV650S. First time riding a bike.

It all depends on the agent you work with. Shop around. One trick is to put down that you have had your license for 3+ years. The insurance company can verify you have a license but cannot verify for how long. This is what my agent did for me.

I could be wrong, but I think it being a ducati will help... as opposed to other 'common' sportbikes.
how many ducatis have been in wrecks?
how many gixxers have been in wrecks?
I am sure the insurance co sees these numbers when coming up with their numbers to charge us.

In a previous life I had a Triumph (one of the new ones) and I forget the numbers, but close to the OP, and it was a brand new bike and not a cheap one at that.

Also, when I was shopping pcar insurance my guy straight up told me a cheaper 350Z would be more to insure because there are so many of them, thus are in more accidents... besides, the average pcar owner is probably more careful than the average 350z owner.

ps- OP, always wear your gear, fullface helmet, and have fun.

I'm 25, my main insurance is through USAA, but they sub the motorcycle insurance through Progressive. I took the MSF in 2000 and stopped riding btw 2001 and 2008. Just got a 2003 SV1000S and full coverage for me is $260/yr. They quoted $200, but my one ticket in 2005 caused the increase. They also consider that there are ~4 months non-riding season...

You guys are lucky. In Canada we get raped by insurance companies. Depending on what bike and on your age I have heard insurance rates as high as 10,000 a year!

dan, tell me about it
even with a clean record at my age...on a sportbike i'm paying around...2600-3000$ a year without a multiline discount. if i give statefarm the P-car they'll do the bike for 100 bucks a month.

i called TD just for ****s and giggles since u of t has a discount thru them for alumni and after wasting my time she quoted me something insane like 8000$. i've never laughed so hard over the phone at anyone before.

over in manitoba, i can get full coverage on a 1000cc supersport for 1000 bucks a year. in the us my cousin is a brand new rider and is paying 600$ a year. i'm moving all my vehicles out of ontario this year.

Look into Geico and Dairyland as well if it's offered in your state. State Farm is a big carrier in TX, but you have to put your cars with them as well. I'm on Progressive and it's $700/year with full coverage and uninsured on a GSXR1000. But I'm an older guy with over 20 years of riding all kinds of things.

I've got full coverage with progressive on my bike. $550 a year for a 2008 Aprilia Tuono Factory. My car insurance is thru State Farm, but their rates are higher on bikes in Texas. I am 45 with a clean record and have had a motorcycle license since I was 18.
