Could be a great starter bike. I guess the first step would be to find a dealer and see if it will be a comfortable ride for a shorter rider (I'm short too).
I saw the DN-01 up close yesterday at the show in Long Beach. That thing is big and the riding position is just horrible. I'm honestly shaking my head wondering what Honda was thinking. If you're going to get a scooter, I'd get a good scooter not this crazy thing. Otherwise get a good bike. A small Duc Monster as mentioned above is a great idea for low inseams. There are a lot of good bikes out there that make much more sense than a DN-01. Cheaper and way cooler too. BMW F650GS is good for low inseam. There are others more sport oriented. Suzuki has a new naked 650 Vtwin. That might be good. Look around and you'll find better options.

As your first step, take the MSF rider course to see if you even like to ride.
If you like it, a good starter bike is a Ninja 250, SV650 or a Ducati 695. I think the Ninja and SV will be a little more economical, and parts and dealers more readily available. I am partial to Ducatis but would probably opt for Ninja or SV due to the lower costs, especially if you happen to drop the bike.
SV650 (Standard, not the S) is the starter bike you could never outgrow. I currently own half a dozen bikes, but I ride the SV650 more often than any other.
alright (if u wanna be okay):
MSF
all the gear
ninja 250/500
at least 3k miles before a bigger bike
don't learn too quickly

oh, yeah... and that new Honda... I think that it will injure/kill more people than a GSXR1000
it has an auto transmission; this makes it wayyyy too accessible to people who are not technical enough to handle a bike with such high displacement, and it is shaft-driven (no need to be a maintenance-wary gearhead for this bike, lol). Just my opinion/reflection.
I can just see all the UCLA trollops trading in their Vespas for this thing. This bike will make money, but is socially irresponsible.

Good luck and ride safe.
+1 to SKXF430's advice.
I was in a similar position as you a couple years ago. I enrolled in an MSF course and took the state licensing exam using their bikes.
The Ninja 250 and SV650 would be great starter bikes. To make my decision, I ended up going to the International Motorcycle Show to sit on a bunch of bikes to see what fit me best. Our fitment constraints are polar opposite, I'm 6'4".
