a bit pricey to treat it like a normal bike (push it hard)

Awsome bike. V4 was one of a kind, now it seems as though the manufacturers will going that route with all bikes. Aprillia's new V4 is coming out soon..it wouldn't surprise me if that set up replaces the I4 in the future.
V4's sound sooo damn sexy... I had 2 Honda VFR's, one with Remus Exhaust, man that thing sounded sweet...
Ducati makes some gorgous bikes a 1098 might find it's way into my garage one day...

A freind of mine who is part owner of beaverrun is friends with Larry Pegram and owns his 749r and 2 cedicis. Larry said that you need to ride the piss out of the desmo to get good times where the 1098r and his racebike is easier to go fast. I would love to have one but I would rather have an r as I do a fair amount of track time. The desmo sounds incredible going down the front straight wide open and would be a cool streetbike plus the unobtanium price.

What Larry said seems to be very true. Many who own the 1098r and D16 feel that the 1098r is easier to ride fast but the D16 is more rewarding when you get it to that level.
Keep in mind it is rumored (has not been confirmed or denied yet) that the Desmo has a premature rev limiter set at 14K ish rpm and may actually make power up to 17K rpm, like the GP bikes, if that limiter is removed and re-tuning is done.
$70k for a bike is insanity. Whatever floats your boat...

Some of us are very very very very passionate about Motorcycles . If I had the means I would have bought one too. .
Hell, I am very passionate about bikes myself, but a $12k R1 that screams does the trick for me...
