Mods can move it.. but i know alot of Porsche guys look at the ring as a benchmark .. the new 2012 GTR has just broken the world record for mass production Supercar in the RING with a 7.20

Link? It's not even 2011 yet. They already have a 2012 GTR? Looks like they need to rename this section 996TT/GT2/GTR.

 

It deserves some respect,but when they,the GTR's,get to break the record in COMPETITION then it will really have the respect it deserves,but to get a car ready for 5 big laps or whatever it takes it's easear to have ready for it then a car compiting.

2011 GT2RS did it in 7:18, right? Is it not considered MASS-produced enough? It is, after all, a 911 variant... albeit a pricey one.

Not to be picky, but the 7:18 was done with just a single lap, and a test driver, no race car driver.

I forgot which car magazine test drove it and achived 7:11's. Hehehe. The gt2rs is just basicly a gt2 with motons /solid busings on it( a few engine rework etc. )

The GTR is a very fast car. For its weight? An Engineering masterpiece; Daily Driver? Absolutely Amazing. We all secretly either love the GTR or are jealous of it. No avid car enthusiast can deny that's it's a work of automotive art. NO ARGUMENTS from me on its credibility.

That being said however, fastest MASS PRODUCED car? Is it just me or are they trying to create a classification just to put in a record? Next we'll see fastest car around the ring with a rear spoiler! Or fastest AWD production car vs. Rear Wheel which is even more credible then MP car!

Official Time for a PRODUCTION car. (Only classification that counts in my opinion). 7:18 to the RS.

I agree with the whole record for "production cars". Who cares if they made 50 or 500 or 5000, point is the car is for sale to the general public and it hauls @ss. The GT2 RS is an amazing machine, but can't take credit from the GT-R, it an engineering mastepiece.

 

Hey don't knock it, Nissan paid a lot of $ to get that classification.

 

No one is taking credit from the GT-R,but GT-R guys should feel free to be happy with his car....why do they bother to come to the 996tt/996GT2 forum.I don't care what that car does or doesn't do.I think almost most of us are very happy or extrimlly happy with his 996tt.

What we are doing is stating facts,truth facts....that's all.

 

I still cannot stand the looks.. even the new body style kills me. Too much of my pleasure of owning a sports car is the "look back"

The interior is another story. This interior makes the 996tt look like it's from the stone ages. I love it.
