The price should have been in 911 Turbo/ R8 V10 territory, not 599/Murcielago/DBS territory!
But the worst part is that they will probably sell all 500 of them and because of the limited production most of them will probably never get driven much...
Come on Lexus, cut the price in half and sell 10x more of them...

Will it sell?... Don't know, but because they are making them so slowly and so few it may help their case.
Will it be a good car? YES. I've worked on some projects with Lexus and I have to say that they know how to define quality and reliability.
This sports car will put them on the map that's for sure, but how far from "mecca" they will land is the real question here.
Logic would tell me that people spending that sort of coin want to see a horse, a star or a bull on the hood, not a letter from the alphabet. Why is this better than the SL65 AMG Black? As if the owner will notice a 3.7sec 0-60 time Vs. a 3.8.

Exactly, don't know what the hell they are thinking.
They will all sell but they have essentially created a rarity for a small handful of people, not a real Porsche, Ferrari, or Lamborghini alternative.

Hopefully the technology will trickle down to future cars.

I'm pretty sure that was the justification for this project. Who knows maybe a detuned version of this car could be the supra, maybe that's why it's so expensive, they want to pay down the cost of research.

I've had many Lexuses (Lexi?) over the years, and have the chance to get one of these. It better come with a playboy bunny if they expect to get that kind of price. They haven't actually confirmed a price yet, as far as I'm told.

I'm betting that 90% of the people complaining about the price would be singing a different tune if it simply had a ferrari or lamborghini badge on the hood.
The car is 65% carbon fiber and HAND BUILT with top notch race components. Its a supercar no matter how you care to slice it.
It's funny how people still care more for the badge on the hood of a car rather than its pure performance capabilties. Actually, it's quite sad.

Not at all, this car is not in the league of supercars like the SLR or Carrera GT which can be picked up for less.
If this had a Ferrari badge it still would not be better than a 599. Even Ferrari does not have their head so far up their posterior, the Italia costs 100k less and is much more desirable.
It is quite sad that you boil it down to simply performance capabilities because if that was the case the ZR-1 would be the car to have. When spending 350k you are buying more than performance.

Yeah you take your Lexus, and let me have my 599 and then some spare change to daily drive the 599 to death
No, no brand whore here. I work daily with brand building and marketing, and one of my all time favorite car is Honda NSX. This is just a Fail in entering the supercar world from price point of view. I'm sure the rest of the car is brilliant. But you would need a hell-of-a good convincing to do, because the next McLaren is coming up with a car (also build from scratch) at 275.000 $. Some try to justify the price tag by saying that the LFA might have cost too much to develop, but if McLaren and Noble can make kick ass cars for a hundre grand less, why can't Lexus w/ Toyota backing it up? Toyota is seriously the cost cutting champion of the auto world!
I'm also 100% positive that the McDaddy will be twice as nice to drive, because it weighs 400 pounds less than a Carrera GT but with similar power AND it has tons of innovations not seen in the supercar world earlier. The only downside with the McDaddy is that it has a twin turboed engine, and the Lexus is naturally aspirated. But the NA power is still not worth 100.000 more!
I love Ferrari too. But I don't care for the pre-F430/Enzo/599 models except for F355, 550M and F50. Other than those, I would almost every time pick another car over a Ferrari in the price range I'm in. Would I get a 348 over a NSX? No. A 355? Sure, because I think it's a more involving car. And I swear to God that I'd pick a Noble over a sub-911 GT3 Porsche every single time. Or a TVR Sagaris over a 550 Maranello. See, no brand snobbery. Just common sense.
One thing's for sure though, they've managed to take away all the attention from the car and over to the price. Good job Lexus, I thought Toyota had the best marketing people i the world
Your turn.
