The local Porsche dealer here in Stockholm already got over 40 orders (about 1/4 delivered) on the Panamera, not sure about the USA but it seems to become a popular car over here.
A new car platform like this from a company with Porsche's pedigree, and which causes such positive emotion from some and negative from others, is not something that's going to just get pulled. To much time and resources invested to just drop it.
