2010 Porsche Panamera Off To Flying Start in the US

bad news for all haters:

Porsche, the once unassailable leader in the sports car segment, has proven that it's not completely immune from global economic conditions but the brand is at a crossroads and a raft of new models could see it rise to the top once again. This turn around is being led by the new 2010 Porsche Panamera
Porsche’s new four-door Panamera is off to a really good start in the United States. According to Porsche Cars North America COO Michael Bartsch, the automaker has sold 983 units of the Panamera sedan, which went on sale in the U.S. on Oct. 17.
“We now have a new level of floor traffic and inquiry, and there is a multiplier effect,” Bartsch said in an interview with Automotive News. “This is bringing a level of business back to the dealerships and is allowing them to start the process of recovering.”
Bartsch would not provide a forecast as to how many Panamera units Porsche hopes to sell in the U.S. in 2010 due to uncertain market conditions. However, he did say that he expects to receive up to 1200 orders for the Panamera in the U.S. in 2009. In 2010, Porsche has plans to produce 20,000 Panamera units, with 4,000 to 6,000 for the U.S. market.
Porsche’s overall U.S. sales were down 32 percent to 14,310 units through the first nine months of 2009. In all of 2008, sales were down 25 percent to 26,035 units.

I hope they sell a bunch so I can pick one up in 2 years after they drop in value a bit. I do this with all the Mercedes I buy (half the sticker price at 2 years old).

As much as everyone hated Chris B design, was it 03 for the BMW 745? From MB to Toyota were all copying the same motif till today ; D

the dealer here in Oman is also sold out. i resevered a full option yatching blue turbo and it should be delivered to me on the launch on the 12th of this month

i was very sceptical about the interior as i thought it would get very dirty and so i went asking them if i were to change when is the next build date....they are completely sold out till march....

I think, especially with Porsche's strategy with options, that a lot of guys have been waiting to see this car in the metal and are ordering what they want. When I saw it in person I was very pleased, felt it had tremendous presence, and started going over the option list to decide what I wanted.

My dealer, whom I trust, told me they wrote orders for 7 following their launch party. All of them were to guys who were waiting to see the car in person before commiting.

The car, for me anyway, is just right. I have had a few S-class Mercedes and 7 series BMWs as my daily drivers. I'm bored with them.

I also think the 5 series is dated (no M5 for me, and my wife had one of the currect generation for 2 years) and the E-class is too common.

The Panamera, size wise, sits almost dead in the middle between and S and an E. It's usable and practical as a daily driver, and I'm not going to see 100 of them on the road every day.

I love the looks of the Rapide, but its going to be $100k more, I question it's viability as a daily driver, and its going to depreciate 75K the first 90 days.

I don't really care if some people don't like the looks. My first new car was an '86 Honda CRX and people used to actually laugh and point at it. So what? It's what I wanted.

I've kept the exact same philosophy since then and, thru about 25 new cars, I have only been dissapointed with one purchase since. I've loved all the others and was pleased with my decision.

Oh well, enough rambling from me. Can't wait to get this one in my garage. I almost feel like I felt the day I got my first Porsche.

I saw the rear seating accommodations, well the interior in general & that was it. I'm not a hater anymore. I think it will sell even better than the Cayenne. The Cayenne saved Posche's bacon. My first impression was UGLY. I've warmed up to it.

I saw one at Pepe Porsche in White Plains, NY. If I was in the market for this price level car, it would be in my garage. The exterior is controversial, the back end particularly, but the interior is absolutely ridiculous. Possible the best interior I have ever been in. This car is a win, congrats to all purchasing one.
