My Project Panamera Turbo Begins

Seibon Dry Carbon Fiber Hood Installed!
With some basic mods already done on our Porsche Panamera Turbo, we are looking to start doing some exterior upgrades. Having partnered with Seibon Carbon for our 2012 BMW M5 F10 at SEMA and now our new Project SRT Viper for the 2013 SEMA show, we connected with them again for the Panamera. They shipped us out one of their Dry Carbon Fiber hoods to check out. Seibon is well known for their carbon fiber products with most coming as a glossy clear coat carbon top and a black frp bottom. However their Dry Carbon Fiber Hoods can command the high dollar price. The underside of these hoods is a work of art. Complete carbon fiber all around, these hoods save some serious pounds off the car. We took some test fit snapshots to show how it looks on our Panamera Turbo. We will be painting the top of it partially to go with our other carbon fiber accents soon to be added. Let us know your thoughts and stay tuned for more updates!

Our Panamera Turbo has been undergoing some mods and we have been filming and documenting them with incredible detail. So much that we have yet to finish these videos but soon will! So we thought we would give you a sneak peak at what has been going on. First off, we could not be more excited than to have the Vorsteiner aero kit for the Porsche Panamera ready to be installed. We have made Vivid Racing synomonous with Vorsteiner in many of our Past Project Cars. Most recognized is our Porsche 997 Turbo and our Mercedes C63 with over 1Million views on YouTube. Like all other Vorsteiner products, the attention to detail and quality is over the top. The front bumper available in their DVWP material with carbon fiber lip is the main focal point. The bumper is predrilled for parking sensors which is a plus. The beautiful carbon fiber 1x1 weave of the front lip looks better than a OEM factory part. Most impressive is how Vorsteiner provides their QR codes on the parts and stickers of authenticity to ensure you are getting the best of the best. The bumper includes the trim to mount the factory DRL/signal lights and includes new intercooler ducts. In addition to the front bumper, we also got the add-on duck tail which definitely makes the rear look more aggressive. For those that are iffy on the Panamera styling, this is the fix! The spoiler is a huge selling point for a couple of reasons: Simple add-on which makes it a easy DIY install. Does not interfere with the factory wing that comes up and down at speed. The high quality carbon fiber can be left exposed if it fits your cars color or you can paint it leaving only the edge exposed as we did on our BMW M3 with Vorsteiner. The upgraded rear bumper with massive carbon fiber diffuser and side skirts will be coming next. This first install will give a good insight to those that just want a little more style without going all the way.
Next up is the KW DLC Lowering Module. This module plugs inline of the factory system to allow you to control the cars ride height via an iPhone app. It can be manually set with switches on the DLC box or adjusted via wifi on the go. What is even more amazing is that it keeps all the factory suspension functionality, including the PASM. KW designed this product to be a great alternative to standard lowering modules allowing the driver to really choose how the ride height should be set according to their needs. Sometimes you really need stock height and maybe sometimes you go to shows and want it super tucked. We did some incredible video of the DLC install and function, so stay tuned for that.
Finally, we hooked up the car with some more sound using the Meisterschaft GTC muffler exhaust system. Meisterschaft has appeared on many of our customers cars over the years and is very well known in the BMW market. For the Porsche Panamera, it replaces the axle back system and features a remote key fob to change the tone of the exhaust. Much like the factory PSE but it is much more pronounced. The mufflers not only save a ton of weight, but the larger tips with Meisterschafts trademark splitter inside is very noticeable.
So here are some sneaks of these mods and stay tuned for some serious video which we will launch on our YouTube Channel Here!

I must be honest and say that I am truly stoked to see the way this Panamera Turbo is coming together. As I said in earlier Project Panamera Turbo articles that I always wanted one of these sedans. But I was only going to get it if I could do the Vorsteiner Panamera Aero Kit. Some may say that the Panamera is one of the ugliest cars ever built... I say nay, there are worse! From the inside, you are driving a 911 with 2 extra seats. From the outside, a Porsche enthusiast can see it. I will agree that in it's stock form, stock ride height, stock wheels, that the Panamera can be a little dull. In response to that, I give you our Vorsteiner upgrade Part 1 with a big fat red stamp across the picture saying "Dayyuuummmmm!"
Having had the Vorsteiner kit on our previous Porsche 997 Turbo, I just love that front bumper styling. The rear duct tail really helps the look of the rear end too. Why I say Part 1 is that we still have the awesome rear bumper with carbon fiber diffuser to install once ready. The beauty with Vorsteiner is their delivery, finish, and overall fitment. Aftermarket aero upgrades are always iffy on fitment compared to OEM. In fact most say to test fit before installing to make any alterations if necessary. We took it out of the box and sent it right over to our guys at Allard Collision in Chandler, Arizona. Because the front bumper has that beautiful carbon fiber lip, we wanted to match up the duct tail spoiler to show off some of the carbon as well. John at Allard had his team mask off the rear spoiler so the paint and carbon lines flowed with the body. In addition to the Vorsteiner parts, we also had Seibon Carbon's OEM style carbon fiber hood. The hood was dry carbon fiber in full on both sides. Since our Vorsteiner parts were glossy finished, we chose to have this work of art Seibon hood clear coated to match. But before we did that, Allard took to their design team to mask off something special to display the carbon fiber and painted surface in a flowing look for the Panamera.
Allard Collision did some impressive paint work which made it hard to identify any lines differentiating the 2 surfaces. When they delivered the parts back to us, they were put inside to not get damaged. Since we are always busy here (no time for our own cars), a couple days had past and John offered to throw the parts on for us, naturally, we said no problem! His team did a over the top job handling the parts like they were baby seal eyes (still in the head, just checking if your reading). The rear spoiler was a simple fit removing the Porsche logo and trim, but leaving the all important "Panamera Turbo" writing. The front bumper fit without any modifications. This included the parking sensors, headlight washers, and intercooler ducts.
Moving back to the Vivid Racing shop to install the hood, it was like performing surgery, lightweight surgery that is! The hood weighs next to nothing. Having already test fitted it before, we new that the lines would be good. Seibon really nailed it on all the other parts of the OEM-likeness. All holes, clip areas, window washers, even under heat padding fit directly in place. We did have to tap larger holes for the hood strut ball heads, but that is next to nothing compared to other aftermarket aero kit experiences. The hood did not have a place for the factory Porsche emblem, but once that baby was closed and latched, and flows better without giving a sleeker, sexier look.
Stay tuned to our ever delayed Meisterschaft exhaust video, KW DLC review, and more of our Project Panamera TT here.

This is definitely one of the coolest products ever and of course the suspension genious group at KW Suspension is behind it. We have been huge advocates of the KW coilovers for street and track applications for some time. But when they are not winning races, they keep daily drivers styled. Their DLC suspension kit works with factory air ride suspension such as the one equipped on our 2011 Porsche Panamera Turbo. Instead of just a lowering module, this DLC kit allows you to control the ride height with an integrated iPhone application. Stock ride height, pounded to the ground, or just lowered for a clean look. Check out the video and view more at http://www.vividracing.com/kw. Video by http://www.codygephart.com

The Panamera Turbo is by far the BEST sedan I have ever owned for its function and form. The 500HP monster does ok with a couple bolt-on parts. But like all other Porsche Turbos, it would benefit from a ECU tune. Annnnddddd.... the beat stops. You cannot OBDII flash the Panamera Siemens SDI6 ECU. It must be flashed outside of the car. For many this is a concern or a process they might not want to do. But step in our newest endeavor, VR Tuned. We have not only put some serious power to the Panamera, but we have made the process pretty simple. Pull your ECU with our basic instructions, Fedex it overnight on our dime, we flash it with a well configured tuned file, then we overnight it back to you.
Once flashed, the Panamera Turbo comes alive. The turbos spool quicker, the mid-range hits harder spinning all 4 wheels, and the top end does not give up. Whether you add a simple muffler or a catback exhaust, the ECU will adjust and the car will only benefit more. The daily driving characteristics are not changed either. Its there when I want it, its safe, and it does not ruin the beauty that is the Panamera Turbo as a daily driver. I have had ours flashed now for just over a month and if I could change one thing, it would be that now I want more power with downpipes, intercoolers, etc! Check out the video review below along with the dyno sheet and pictures. You can also view all our other Panamera Turbo articles here.
