As it currently stands, there aren't any fisheye lenses that will allow you to use AF on your D40. However, there are a few extreme wide-angle lenses made by Nikon that will work.

Fisheyes (no AF on D40/D40X):

Just let me know if you need to see any reviews on Nikon's extreme wide-angle lenses and I'd be happy to help.

These aren't true fisheyes. They are just REALLY wide angle lenses. A real fisheye on a crop body needs to be about 4mm. A real fisheye is 180 degrees, and is 99.9% useless in photography. They also cost about $1000, so you must REALLY want that shot.

If you are after the "wide" look, get a Sigma 10-20mm, and call it a day.
