hey op, did you see that someone in this site's for sale section has a new in box d90 18-105vr kit for sale...i think he's asking $950 shipped for it. you should check it out--we can help you spend money, but maybe we can also help you minimize what you spend!

I suggest buying the camera with the stock lense from Nikon and really use it and get used to the camera. 6 months from then, buy a lens once you figure out what your shooting the most so you can get something to fit your needs.
another option is from amazon for $899. I have a D200 now and would get the D90 next. It offers about as much as the D300 and even has the video rec to boot. I'd say get the body, then the 18-200vr and the 50 prime 1.8. or the 50 1.4 if you have the money.
