I suggest buying the camera with the stock lense from Nikon and really use it and get used to the camera. 6 months from then, buy a lens once you figure out what your shooting the most so you can get something to fit your needs.

another option is from amazon for $899. I have a D200 now and would get the D90 next. It offers about as much as the D300 and even has the video rec to boot. I'd say get the body, then the 18-200vr and the 50 prime 1.8. or the 50 1.4 if you have the money.
