How much Photoshop

I have always loved photography, looking to start getting into it more soon. Was just wondering how much photoshop is used in your pictures and how much is just correct lens choice and settings?

Maybe you could post a few before and afters

Thanks

post processing is everything. I will spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours per image.

^^^Holy crap! I spend maybe 30 sec - 3 min MAX in Adobe Camera Raw. If I play around in PS too much, I usually end up worse off.

If you're spending that much time per image, your photos are probably pretty bad off camera, or there are alot of reflections, or your doing rig-work. There are timse where 2-4 hours can be spent on PP, but that's for really special shoots that require alot of work to get an image the way someone wants it.

I try to nail everything while shooting, whatever I can't I fix later. Most of the time I am touching up, or correct minor exposure. More serious work I can spend anywhere from 30-1hr but thats chopping, etc.

Most of my shots only take 3-5 minutes using two separate programs.

I adjust all the levels, exposure level, brightness and contrast in Raw Therapee.

I then add my watermark and adjust the curves in GIMP.

When I am editing shots from paid shoots, however, I've found myself spending anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours per shot. But, those are the ones that make the cover of the magazine.

Photoshop has its place but the old addage you can't polish a turd really comes true. If the initial capture is weak then you will be spending hours in PS and still come out with a turd. You need to think and approach the photograph as an individual work and adjust the small things in Camera RAW. Sure if you are doing magazine work then you can spend hours making HDRs and changing subtle aspects of the image and end up with hundreds of layers. For an art piece an hour at PS is a long time.
