We "flash" the ECUs. Albeit not in the car. The reason is not coding it is time. The system is very slow and not stable. The more information we add as in other programs the worse it will get. So Garrett wrote his own program that harness flashes the ECU. So we do flash and absolutely do not solder your ECU.

Did you read any of Stephen's posts above???? He doesn't open the ECU at all he just uploads a new program. They have cracked the security on the 997tt. Re-read this thread!

I just saw that but I haven't seen whether he has come up with a way for us folks to flash the ECU ourselves yet.

No, that is not something we have ever offered. Sorry. I can't say that is in the plans. Garrett and I did discuss it but it is not something that has been decided on if ever.
