Dyno of Supra Road Race Track Car

This is a cross post from the Japanese forum since my car is a dedicated track car and the new tune was made just for road race track conditions...
Stage6 Motorsports put in a set of GSC S1 cams (along with converting to shimless buckets) and then sent the car to MASE Engineering for a complete re-tune.

Mase uses a Dyno Dynamics Dynamometer (load bearing chassis dyno) for tuning, so the graphs below are at least 10% lower than what a dynojet would have recorded. Mase tuned the car from scratch, and these graphs were recorded after many, many pulls to simulate how the car normally runs after 10-15 minutes of being on track and everything heat soaked.

Here is a link to an short in-car video: http://vimeo.com/29216878

My car is a dedicated road race track car, a few of the details:
  • GT35R with 0.68 housing
  • AEM v1.0 Tuned by Mase Engineering
  • GSC S1 Cams with shimless buckets
  • Greddy header and wastegate (from a T78 single turbo kit)
This graph shows RWHp & RWTq (DynoDynamics Machine - not DynoJet)

This graph show RWHp and BOOST (DynoDynamics Machine - not DynoJet)

The boost is hitting almost too hard, so we will be back out in late October to finish the fine tuning when at the track.

Overall, I could not be happier. Dwight and Mase were able to finally fix the boost control issue I was having and the car has never been so powerful on track to date...

Looking good, Josh. I want a ride in that thing next time! We'll be back at Roebling on Oct 22-23, probably with Wes' car there too now that he can walk again...

We'll be at Sebring with the Porsche this weekend with Chin Motorsrpots. When's your next event? Heard you were doing some wheel to wheel racing soon.

First, I'm glad someone posted in this section. For a Porsche dominated forum, this section is highly neglected. I'm glad to see anything in this section no matter the make.

If all those items are dealt with those power levels are more than adequate.
I don't know, in my opinion and experience, guys with more than 500-600 whp seem to have lots of problems, even if small ones that ruin weekends. That 583 on DD will be probably 650 whp on a dynojet. I know the Supra motors are tough, but just saying, that is a lot of HP.

I was going to ask the other details as well, what else is on the car and what tracks do you visit regularly?

That is a shop car though, so they can take that baby out and fix it all the time if they want. I take it this guy is an individual, so troubleshooting isn't nearly as efficient. It can be done, I'm not saying otherwise, but the higher the hp, the more stuff breaks.

Thanks John...I will be back at RRR Dec 2/3/4 for the Advanced Solo DE and maybe Sebring in November.

I did some w2w at the SCCA Regional at Daytona a few weeks ago...raced a 72 911 RS...was a great event and a lot of fun!

lots of work in that car for sure. Like the machined front splitter and front brake ducting work. Motons..... nice!

What does it weigh with fuel and no driver?

It weighs 3,119 wet with ~10 gallons of fuel and brand new R6s. Light for a Supra, heavy for a track car...

CF doors and front fenders will help a bit...

With all the potential for these cars, I can never figure out why I never see them on track in the Bay Area. I read about 600/800/1000 hp Supras quite a bit and people must just drag race them. I organized a dyno day in Chicago back in 1996 for a bunch of RX-7 guys and 2 nearly stock Supras showed up and put down numbers that were 100 hp higher than just about everyone else. Can't figure out why more people don't road race them.
