Gil is 100% honest and you have nothing to worry about as far as a financial transaction is concerned. I would send him 10K with absolutely no worries.

However, in terms of watch "scholarship" he once told me that my Anonimo "lacked depth and history" and that of course is absolutely untrue (Anonimo case makers come from a long line of Florentine watchmakers who were not part of the Panerai sell out).

I know the story of Anonimo and the guys that left Panerai etc. What I mean by that is the history of the brand is not very long as is that of Panerai. I don't pretend to know it all but the 4 brands I do carry I know VERY well. Panerai, Rolex, AP and Patek.

I just wish I did not have an unexpected (unpleasant) surprise so I could do my third watch from Gil. You would be foolish not to trust him

Anonimo has its roots in one of the earliest known Florentine horologists Filippo Brunelleschi, who in the early 15th century is said to have adopted the spring as a moving force for timekeeping. Throughout the centuries, Florence has had great watchmakers, especially case makers. Of course the most well known watch from this history is Panerai. This venerable brand was created in the Florentine workshop first known as Guido Panerai & Figlio for the Italian Navy beginning in the 1930s.

Panerai was finally introduced to the consumer market in 1993 (available only in Italy until 1997), and put the spotlight on Italian, or more specifically, Florentine case manufacturing. But all of that changed after Panerai was bought by Richemont and its subsequent relocation to Switzerland in late 1997.

Many of the Florentine casemakers who formerly worked for Panerai did not want to move and they were put to work in the founding of Anonimo.

Thus, Anonimo is the TRUE essence of the history of Florentine watchmaking. Its casemakers have a 500 year legacy. Although Panerai probably has more watches that I like and I own one, its seems nowadays that they are becoming almost as trendy as Rolexes'. IMO, the Anonimo has more depth, exclusivity, and history.

I bought a Pam from him and the deal went flawlessly.

BTW, don't feel bad about posting your question. It's a lot of money and you have every right to want the warm fuzzies.

Good Luck.

Dr_Jitsu: that is one bad a$$ watch! I told Gil I wanted it only to learn the next morning that I need to replace both power heads on the boat (ouch $$ ) otherwise, pretty certain it would have been in my wrist sooner than later. If you do go for it (why not?!) congratulations!

Just picked up a new JeanRichard and a Wolf Winder...also found out the wife is pregnant. The 24K for the AP is now going to day care

I will say, however, that if I had that kind of cash to spend I would have no problem sending it to Gil.

Walnut, when are you going to get something to go along w/ the tennis shoes and knee high socks you are always wearing?
