Canadian pricing is a lot...but you can easily get a tag for 25-30% off retail if you can get in touch with the right AD...
And at 25-30% off with only 5% tax (you still need to pay your 12% if you buy it from the states) you will be paying roughly the same price...maybe within 100 or 200 at max...well worth it IMO
I would be paying zero tax in the states. I'll buy over phone and have it shipped to a friend in another state who will send to me labelled as gift or who I will pick up from when I'm down there next.
I scoped the watch out locally and with the discount they were dong here in Toronto there is still a $900 savings to buy South of the border.

Your friend can ship it as a gift, but it will still get taxed if its marked with a value over $60 or something like that...gifts are only non-taxable if they fall under a very small dollar value (I think its $60 max on gifts)
And yes you can also go down there and pick it up from him the next time you're down there...and if you plan on bringing it back across the border without claiming it, then naturally you'll be saving a very good chunk of change..
Only problem with that is you have to be careful when you wear it out of the country. If you never plan to wear it out of the country, or have other watches you can wear when travelling abroad, then go for it...but if you decide to wear it across the border and happen to come across a customs officer on your way back in that decides to question you on the watch, you'll get it confiscated. You will have to pay some retarded penalties to get it back, not to mention you will get blacklisted for 5 years...
You have to be able to prove that it was either bought in Canada (so proper taxes were paid) or legally brought into Canada (again, all taxes/duties were paid). If you can't they will nail you...it could happen a year from now, it could happen 30 years from now...it doesnt matter...they are really anal about it.
I'm not saying anythings wrong with the way you're getting you're watch...Just want to make sure you're aware of the risks both now and in the future
GL with your purchase! and remember to share some pictures when you get it!
With regards to wearing it across the boarder, I'll have to read up. What if you were given a watch by a grandparent as a gift. You would have no proof of purchase in Canada...

The rule is $60 and below...but sometimes they let things a little more pass...they are somewhat flexible...but if you mark something significantly more than that $60 limit, chances of them letting it slide are probably pretty close to zero heh..
Canada customs are very tough on this...even if it was a gift from your grandparents, you would need to show proof that your grandparents bought the watch in Canada, or brought it into the country legally etc...essentially you have to be able to prove your story while they dont have to prove anything...it sucks but thats just how they are.
They are the worst when it comes to Rolex's...and tough on other recognizable brands (ie. Tag, Omega, etc...) But i'm sure other brands such as JLC etc are going to be easier to fly under the radar.
2 years ago my buddy was looking for a Breitling SA black face and he found one on Aunthentic Watches so he called them and asked if he could meet up. He asked me to go with him, and since they are internet based and do not have a actual showroom we met him at a Starbucks. He was very nice, and professional. My friend still has the watch to this day and loves it. Hope that helps alittle. Like everyone else said, just know it is a Grey Market watch. If it is only a $200 difference, I saw go with the AD.
Gracehms, I brought in a few watches and I always wore them with me when I crossed the border and I had never been asked, but babypimpin does have a good point. It also depends on how long you stay in the US, and there's a certain amount that you can bring back without being taxed. If you want to bring it back yourself, it's not a bad idea to check out the Canada Customs' website for more details?

Yeah its all personal choice...I hate crossing customes whether or not I'm bringing anything back or not...every time I cross i get the feeling of "great, what are they going to try to do to screw me this time"...and if I had to worry about them nailing me for the watch on my wrist as well...man thats some unnecessary stress...I like the peace of mind to be able to cross and not have to worry about anything...and that peace of mind is worth paying the taxes for me..
But all in all, this thread should have provided you with some very useful information to help you make a decision so bottom line...Enjoy the damn watch!
The bottom line is if the dealer you are buying from knows how to ship to Canada you will not have any tax or other issues.

Just saw this thread. I've purchased several thousands in watches from AuthenticWatches in the last 6 years or so. All of them through ebay. My wife and I both have a few watches from them now, as well as friends I've referred. No complaints so far.
