Another vote for Tissot. Excellent quality and style for the price.

Seiko Monster

This is my daily beater. Great watch for the price. Nothing wrong with the hammys and tissot as mentioned in other posts.

If you pre-order a lum-tec it's $505. I just got mine and I love it.

I just heard about these watches. seems pretty cool for what you pay:

Marathon TSAR "tritium search and rescue"
http://countycomm.com/tritiumsar.htm

quartz models are cheaper than autos. these watches have a 2.5mm thick sapphire crystal, and (supposedly) are standard issue for canadian and us coast guard employees. i think you're supposed to be a gov't employee to buy one, so there are only a few sites that sell them to the public. i think there are a few floating around ebay too

Depends what he is looking for, but for that price I would consider something with great style from Nixon, Vestal, or Nooka. Or for something a bit on the tech side Suunto. Classic and timeless it would be hard to beat Seiko.

Just make sure it's not a T-Touch, those have crap quality and their customer service/warranty division is terrible. I bought one and the pressure sensor went Kaput. They wouldn't tell me how much it would be to replace it until I sent it in for 4-6 weeks.

More info on this pre-order? Just saw their website, looks like pretty interesting stuff. Is this a fairly new company?
